Which Nokians do you use for commuting?

I am looking at two different ones, the Mount and Ground 160 and the Hakkapalsdkh... 106. Any recommendations? I am leaning toward the 160 becuase I found it cheaper by almost $20 for the pair, so any reason I shoudn't buy this one? Thanks.

Easy. The Mount & Ground come only in 26". I run 700c, so my only choice is the W106.

Peter White has some info on Nokians: http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/studdedtires.asp. I don't anticipate riding off road so I didn't get the Mount & Ground tires. I got some Innova tires which look like a Hakkapelitta clone: http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=1781&category=405. I'll let you know how they work as soon as Denver gets some snow which doesn't melt after a day or two.

I read just about everything on there, and I was deciding between the two, but I saved a little money and went with the mount and grounds. My commute is very short, only about 3.5 miles, so some knobby tires shouldn't be too bad. I'm sure they'll work fine.

This is my 5th Winter in this forum. Activity comes and goes, but I would say we are on the downside so far this year. There are a lot of winter riders in the commuting forum that don't visit here much. That's not such a good thing but it is what it is.

I'm hopefully going to be making my own for off-roading too. I can't be spending $100/ tire. I really want to try winter trail riding. Seems like a ton of fun.

I'm starting my third winter with the Hakkawhatever 106's, no complaints so far and no trouble with wear. They work great for dealing with black ice, which was the reason I purchased them, since most of my ride is on plowed roads. However, they're not going to work magic on thick ice sheets, especially bumpy, thick ice, as I found out to my dismay/pain last winter on an unplowed trail going under a bridge that dripped lots of water.

get the mount & ground run 30 front and 40 rear, you will need to try get them to unhook in the hard frozen stuff

I have the 160s and the 294s. Today I came very close to having my face planted into the street on the 160s.(slush and snow) I need to slow down or put the 294s back on at lease the front rim.

Does anyone run Kenda Klondikes?

I've had these (http://www.phattire.com/keklstmobiti.html) for three winters now, and they were only $100US for the pair.
Those carbide tips hold up awesome on the mixed surface (plenty of bare pavement between the packed snow/black ice).
