Mountain Biking - What was your best deal ever?

I just picked up a 2006 Gary Fisher Paragon for $1,200 and feel like one lucky dude. It's got big wheels, high-end components, weighs in at 27 pounds, feels great and rides like a dream.

I had researched a bunch of bikes in the $800 to $1800 range and didn't come across a better deal.

So, I thought I'd turn to the bikeforums crew and ask: What's the best bargain you've come across for a complete bike?

Best deal would be my road bike, $1200 for a 2007 Scott CR1 Team, brand new = savings of over $800 based on prices at the time for it.

In mountain biking, it would be finding a poorly worded EBay add for a a pair of BB7's brand new and picking them up for $45.

Car parts... saws-all'd a 69 440 out of an old fury cop car for free.

My bike got stolen, the bike shop got creative with the replacement value - voila - suddenly I get 3 extra speeds and front suspension.

Oh, I also got one of the first batches of Race Face LP cranks for 70% off MSRP. I still have them somewhere...

I recently bought an '06 Marin Palisades Trail (MSRP $910) for $420 (shipped) from Sierra Trading Post. It sure beats riding my rigid '92 Trek 930...

My best deals would be bad form to say; suffice that they have been good enough for me to afford DH racing.

I just read that the OP said complete bikes... so I guess the best I've done so far was my bro's old caad2 for $100. I cut my teeth on it, so to speak.

So did you go the elephant ears route or the slant-6 Volare/Aspen crossmember?

I thought I got a decent deal on my Heckler frame from someone on the local forums. Came with Vanilla RLC, Float R, 5th Element Coil, CK headset, Thomson Elite seatpost and stem, XT F.Derailer, salsa skewers, diff. weight springs, spare derailer hanger and pivot axle/bushings. For $550. Still ended up putting $1,000 into it, even reusing parts like wheels, tires, brakes and seat.

1972. There are other pics along with some of my race cars but I will have to disassemble a photo album that is 30+ years old without damaging them.

That is my soon to be (then) wife sitting on the hood.

The second picture is of the engine in the last funny car I drove in 1971. Injected not blown and good for 7.80 at 194mph. Hard to believe that it wouldn't beat a modern Pro-Stock car.

Lol, i got the same bike. For $352 shipped (waiting for paypal $50 in January) from sierratradingpost not including credit card incentives and fatcash. After paypal, creditcards and fatcash, it'll come to about $275. 15" frame though =(, i'm 5'10..

Ten pairs of Santini bibs for $10 each. The entire rack was my size, and each has prominent Heineken sponsorship logos down both sides. I wear them for long distance rides - most comfortable short/bib I've ever worn. Too bad I only bought THREE of them :mad:
