I purposely set this bike up for Deer Camp this year, and I'm going to leave it out there. We have about 1000 acres for me to hunt and explore. I think it will be getting an Xtra-cycle Freeradical this summer in prep for next year. This year I just planned on carrying the deer over my shoulders if I had to, but so far I haven't got one and there's only two days left. We'll see.

You go riding through the woods during deer season sporting those antlers? Doesn't sound too smart to me.
Nor does riding through the woods during hunting season with a deer over your shoulders.

I appreciate your concern, and if I wasn't on private land I'd agree with you, and really it's more like I'm riding across open fields, the woods are too thick.

Nice looking set up, Pax. If nothing else, you could always load the deer on the bike and walk out.
How did you mount the antlers on the handlebars?

Well OK, just make sure your hunting partners have more sense then a certain well known trigger happy politician.
Are you using it as a decoy?

To be honest, the horns are not really fastened to the bars, although a couple zip-ties would have done the job. What I really like, is how quietly I can get to the stands, I think it's even quieter than walking there. I still need to mount a rack or sleeve for my rifle, and I noticed in another thread that converting a deer-cart into a bike trailer shouldn't be too difficult. This season was a trial run, next season should see things more fully developed.

I have noticed that deer hunters are not always real fit.

Nor are all cyclists. Your point?

I don't necessarily dispute that statement. Stereotypes are usually pretty accurate when you apply them to the masses, it's only when you try and apply them to individuals that you get in trouble. If you're questioning my fitness I'll refer you to the following shot from the MS150.

My point was that it wasn't necessarily appropriate for the masses- didn't mean anything personal by it. The title said "Who Needs an ATV to Hunt Deer?", from which I inferred a more general application was intended.

I get ya. While that wasn't really my intention, it does bring up a good point. A dedicated Hunting bike might not be a best seller, but there just might be an untapped market out there.
I like the deer cart come bike trailer idea, that should be easy enough and be useful for other things besides deer (after you hose it off).

Well, here in Kansas I can about guess how many of said bikes you would sell. If I still hunted i might buy one, but aside from me i think you would be out of luck. Stereotypes exist for a reason. A lot of people in Kansas hunt. I'd say a minute percentage of them ride bikes.
Reason? Don't know but most of them are very fond of the biggest 4 wheel drive they can find, and completely averse to bicycles.
I will attest that you can sneak right up on all sorts of wildlife on a bike. I have ridden the distance around the equator on my mountain bike on remote country roads here in the last 4 years. I've gotten "on top" of all sorts of things.
I think if you can find a way to transport your weapon and a potential carcass then you have a very good secret "weapon."

Here in WV the DNR does promote people using mountain bikes to get to fishing spots. They don't really discourage hunters from using bikes, but they don't particulary encourage it either. I don't know any hunters who use bikes.

Yup, I saw that when I googled hunting bicycle, and I guess that would have been me if I'd have shot one. Oh well, 2 more weekends left.

I'm still looking for one I can fit on a plane for drop hunts up here. Preferably a pugsly type with big honking tundra tires. Man that would make life easier.
This looks like a great way to get about the farm, but it doesn't look like you have enough storage space for a gun or a knife.
Wouldn't it be fun to attach a little trailer of sorts, like a Burly, and keep the gun and equipment in there and, if you get a deer, you could haul it back to your barn on the same trailer?
