Southern California - Motivate me to ride to work today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm only 12,320 miles behind you on BikeJournal. If you don't ride today, I may pass you.
Motivated yet? :)
P.S. If it's not safe, don't ride, Steve. ;)

It was raining so i didn't ride to work. I drove instead...
[actually, i woke up late, but i'm going to use the above excuse instead] :D
Steady rain over this way and it's still pretty dark...good thing I'm off today...lol....j/k. The air should be fresh today and most of the crap on the streets washed to the gutters. Expecting windy conditions later though. All in all it should be a decent day to ride...but that depends on where you are at and how hard or steady the rain is.

If you don't ride today, I'll whine about it all day on bikeforums. People will despise me but blame you. Do you want that guilt? Do you really want to be responsible for my whining and their misery?
As it is, they are going to have to listen to my whining that I didn't go to the gym this morning.
Go ride.

Wouldn't you like to actually use that rain gear you spent good money on at least once this year?
You get hardcore commuter points for riding in the rain. Besides, it's an adventure!
You get to pretend you are in Portland...
Its just a light drizzle now. Got my booties on and a windshell vest, I should be good. The part I hate about riding in wet conditions is cleaning the bike after. I guess I need a beater bike so I wouldn't care...

You're posting on here so you're still stalling. Seriously. The whining starts in 5...4...3...2...

I think the key is a beater bike, just hose it off when done. A single speed makes it even easier. A new chain is $5 so there isn't as much need to worry about grit.
[edit] If you make that single speed fixed, you will have better control as well in the wet conditions.

As much as i'd like to commute in the rain, i'm not prepared for it. Mentally and physically i'm prepared (heck i did i duathlon in the rain) but i don't have the supplies stashed at work or rain gear to make having to work after riding in at least mildly enjoyable...

Best reason yet! I always complain about the cost of a good rain shell because I know I won't get $100 worth of use out of it for at least 5 years!

Not stalling, I usually leave for work between 7:00 and 7:30. Anyway, the ride in was quite enjoyable. It only rained on me a little bit in the middle... of course it had to be right at the steep winding descent where I've wiped out twice in dry conditions...

Boy it's coming down hard out here in the San Gabriel Valley.
Careful riding everybody and light yourself up.
Oh yeah, this was my ride (http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view.do?episodePk.pkValue=4529638) if anyone cares...

I don't get it. You did a 22 mile ride to get to your work which is 2 miles away???

And that is how I've ridden 18000 miles this year. That's my morning exercise. :D

Hey, how do you upload your data into a map and stats like that? That's really cool.

I'll take a good guess that you're not the type of guy who gets hit by a car, ends up on a stretcher to the emergency room, has one of his bikes totalled, has a leg jammed up bad enough that he can't walk without a severe limp... and still doesn't miss a day of riding.
Who needs to harden the F up now?:rolleyes:

Makes sense. Lucky for me, work is 19 miles away, and coming home means climbing La Tuna.

Superdex, she is speaking of UMD. You see, the man never doesn't ride and has ridden a DOUBLE CENTURY (that's 200 miles in case you don't know) after suffering food poisoning the night before, which is why you telling him to "harden the F up and ride. You [little kitty cat]" is so damn funny.

I am thinking Mr. Dex was joking. I can admit it, we are a bunch of sissies here. At 15 degrees I don't get out of bed.

I'm sure he was. But it's still funny given whom he's teasing. :p

OH, I'm not defending him...he doesn't need it. I'm just laughing at the fact that someone told HIM to harden the F up. I'm not sure there are many others I've met who are as nutty....um...I mean, dedicated as UMD. ;):D

Hey I did ride after all. I just needed some motivation. It was the threat of Happytime catching me on Bikejournal that did it...

Man I wish I read this thread for some motivation before I backed out of my morning commute. I have no problem taking a little rain on the way to work. But when it's already raining BEFORE I begin my commute, it's really hard to get motivated.
