Didn't find any posts about these tires and thought I'd ask. Nashbar (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=6000121&subcategory=60001255&brand=&sku=20909&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20700x28c%20to%20700x45c%20Touring%2FTrekking%2FHybrid) has these 700x40 "cyclocross" tires on sale for $4. I bought a couple for my Tricross and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. At that price, how can I go wrong? I want something large like this for winter and the fire roads that I ride from time to time.

Those look like the Kendas that came stock on my old Giant Sedona. Didn't like them. They didn't do well in snow and didn't roll all that well.

Those look like the ones that came stock on my sister's bike. They seem worth it at that price, but I have fallen a few times when I go off the side of the road and into damp grass. It's like being on ice. I don't think they would be a good tire for the snow or any slippery surface.

Couldn't hurt to try for that price. I have a pair of the Kenda K Shield tires on my hybrid and they are awesome tires. I've been commuting an average of twice a week.....52 miles total per week....for the last year and a half with them and they still have a lot of life left, NEVER had a flat, and they seem to be fine for slick conditions because I haven't fallen yet (but I go real slow in that situation).

I don't know. To me tires matter, a lot. Any tires marked down that far are there for a reason. They probably suck. I guess it depends how much you care about performance, why not buy tires that you know are going to be good?

I agree. I plan on putting these tires on a second wheelset I have for riding on rail beds and dirt roads. Nothing more. For commuting, I have a set of Conti Ultra Gatorskins on my fast bike and a pair of Ritchie Tom slicks on my MTB commuter. Wanted something larger to take up the bumps when I want to do a faster dirt road, but didn't want to use my normal MTB with the knobbies. If they suck, I'm not out much...
