Finally, the search is over! I bought a black Trek Pure Sport yesterday. I'll be bringing it home later today.
I had been looking at other bikes with pedal forward or crank forward designs. And I had begged off of the Trek, primarily because I didn't really like the way the frame looked, in comparison to others. But I decided to go see one in person.
Since July, whenever I've gone into Bicycle Headquarters here in Midland, they've never had the "Sport" version of this bike on the floor. I was fully expecting that I would have to try out the 7-speed, just to see how the bike rode and to see if the frame would fit. I was very happy to see this one sitting on the floor. I tried it out, and just to be sure, I also tried out the Navigator 3.0, after looking at the geometry specs for that bike. The relaxed seat tube angle of that one made me consider it. I took it as a sign that the one time that I went in there with the intention of riding a Pure, he happened to have the Sport on the floor.
The ovalized top and down tubes really give the bike a strong feel, and the cables are run internally as well. So I can attach a mini-pump to the top tube, or a splash guard to the down tube without worrying about cables. The bike does NOT come with slimed inner-tubes, for those who may want them. I didn't want them.
The real test will come with a longer ride, and with some tweaking. But I am very encouraged, and I think that I have finally found a bike that I can have some real fun on. Now comes the part where I begin swapping stuff off of my current ride to the Pure in order to get the Specialized ready for auction.
Off to the bike shop!
