My wife's parents are from Ivyland, Pa, and I'm thinking of taking a road bike up there when we go for Christmas.

My wife says, "Sure there are places to ride up there." And when I ask her where she says, "I dunno."

Does anyone have any suggestions for nice, quiet roads in the Warminster, Doylestown, Newtown area?

Frankly, I've never seen one.

I'd just as soon ride alone as I'm old, fat and slow.

I rode the Covered Bridges Ride there back in October. Lots of little country roads around there that are great for riding. Unfortunately I didn't keep the cue sheet from that ride, so I can't help you out myself. The Central Bucks Bike Club might be able to help you out (www.cbbikeclub.org). There was a thread about the covered bridges ride, and I recall there being 1 or 2 people who were members replying. The thread is here:http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=342176

All kinds of stuff just outside of Doyelstown towards Nockamixon park. Another club site to check out for cue sheets is here- http://www.suburbancyclists.org/

On the CBBC web site (www.cbbikeclub.org), go to the cue sheet page, and you'll find some nice routes. Or do the crushed gravel trail along the Delaware River (NJ side). The area where your folks live has been so developed that you'll find better riding along the river or north of Doylestown. One advantage of the trail this time of year is you don't have to deal with black ice or indifferent drivers rushing to shop.

If you are here then, you are welcome to come on the CBBC D (advanced beginner) ride that I'm leading on 12/22. Details on the CBBC site under "ride schedule." Email me (you can do so through the web site) if you have any questions.

How far do you want to go? What kind of terrain? I grew up in Bucks County, and I still ride there regularly. I can probably provide some good ideas.
