Classic & Vintage - Lucas double sided brass/nickel king of the road bell

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hello to every body, Today I picked up this bicycle bell. It is double sided and inside has ramps with weights on springs that strike the domes. It has a brass waist band app. 10mm wide with Lucas badges on domes. Half the handle bar clamp is steel. It is very weighty. On the thumb lever it says JOS.Lucas Ltd n132 Birmingham.
Can anyone advise on age or any other details - would be most interesting.
Many thanks

Hello Harry, the 'King of the Road' bell was quite common in England. I don't know exactly what vintage yours would be, but it could be as early as the 1920s.

Harry, I have posted a link to this thread in the Classic and Vintage subforum, at the suggestion of East Hill.
Or at least I was going to, until another Moderator moved the whole thread. doh:eek:

It is really hard to say... especially without photos [HINT, HINT ] because as East Hill suggested, these were really available, virtually unchanged, for maybe 50 years or more. This company made many early headlamps for oil, carbide, batteries and dynamos and later made one of the most popular early fork mounted "computers" for ticking away the miles ridden. All of their stuff was very good quality and the older stuff was often blessed with HEAVY top quality British chrome over brass.
Very cool looking old bells. Great additions for British Roadster style bikes particularly, but nice for any older bike. [IMHO] :)
