I'm watching air fare prices closely and highly considering going up to Portland for the show in February (8-10). I know there is a decent sized list of people on the CR list who are planning on being there, but wanted to get our own BF's C&V head count started here.

(if there's already a thread about this, I couldn't find it as search is broken, and I'll certainly merge the two if needed)

Maybe. Being in Seattle it would not be too big a deal to get down there. It will depend on my financial situation.

Assuming the Casati repair/repaint doesn't completely drain me (and my school schedule cooperates), I'll probably take the Greyhound up. Hopefully with a bike. I ****ing love Portland.

Jon, I'll be flying up to Portland for NAHBS. I've attended the show for the past two years in San Jose and it's definitely worthwhile. Don Walker, the organizer, frequently posts updates on which framebuilders have signed up (on http://www.frameforum.net - username Slapshot) and it looks like they'll break all the records at the Portland show. Several Italian builders are scheduled to be exhibitors.

Hometown show so I'll be "here" for sure. Great city, come if you can. If anyone needs Portland info please let me know I'd be happy to help.
Also, if you're driving and can bring a bike do so and you're invited to our regular Saturday morning PortlandVelo club ride. Great group of people and we were just voted best club in the NW for the second year in a row.

I may try and put together a little BF C&V get together at our new house if the "boss" gives a thumbs up.

Debating between staying at the host hotel or looking for a better rate elsewhere, which of course means I'd need transportation to/from the show. Portland might be a very bike friendly city, but ya'll weather in Feb isn't too friendly with my thin Texan blood. ;)

+1 ... it would be pretty cool to meet some of the heretofore faceless folks from this forum in the flesh.

And yes, those of you who teach high school English can quote that as alliteration of the first water.

Being two hours down the road in Eugene, I'm circling the date on my calendar.

I'll be going, should be fun. A BF meet up would add to the fun.

I'll be there, naturally. :) If anyone wants some specific lodging recommendations, please let me know. The convention center is right next to a light rail stop, so if you stay at a place near light rail, you're golden. In addition, it is a very short bike ride to the convention center from any part of the inner core of the city. You can bring a bike on the light rail with no time restrictions. (Please bring a good lock to Portland.) All buses have 2 bike racks on them. With the exception of the hotels near the airport, most lodging is in the inner city. Remember this about Portland: the closer you get to downtown, the safer everything becomes. Our dicey areas are further out...

Also, Oregon has no sales tax. :D There are lots of bike shops in the area, plus one that is the only North American Carradice dealer with a physical store west of the Rockies.

There is an excellent microbrew pub a couple of miles from the convention center. (Lucky Labrador) The food is good, and there are non-alcoholic alternatives that are really nice, like microbrew root beer. There is lots and lots of seating, and heated outside seating for smokers. Plenty of bike parking. It would be a fantastic place for a Bike Forums meet-up. Also, I believe Shift (bike funnists) have much in the way of neat activities up their sleeves for NAHBS. We're really happy to have this here.

With that kind of invite, who wouldn't want to go?!? :D

Thanks for all that DonnaMB!

Will have to check back with you closer to the event if it looks like I can swing it. I'll keep a watch on this thread in the meantime.

Hope to see some of you at the Lucky Labrador!

So, if we meet at the Lucky Labrador, what would be the best day? The night/day before the show starts? Evenings after the show? Not settling on anything, just getting everyone thinking!

Assuming they allow minors, I'd be down to meet up there. I probably wouldn't get into Portland until Friday evening, FWIW.

Minors as well as dogs are allowed at the "Lab" and let me add, it does have some great brews but the pub food is simply amazing!!!!!

Love that last photo, but I might be biased, but got to wonder why put it under the BB instead of ON THE HEADTUBE. :D

This is looking to be a great trip, between all the bike porn and all the great people that will be there to meet. I'll have to check with work to see if I'll be able to swing a full day off on the Friday prior to get out there as early as possible or what. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

Luckily, my wife's cousin is getting married that weekend in Portland, so I'll be there (don't know how I got so fortunate on the timing).

I'm hoping we will drive down from Seattle Friday night and I have warned the family already I'm going to disappear for a few hours either Saturday or Sunday morning to take in the show. They may even just dump me off at the show Sunday, and then I'll take Amtrak home to Seattle.

cuda2k

Wouldn't be a bad way to do it. :)

I plan on flying out Friday, and catching the latest possible flight out on Sunday as possible. Which means I'm going to have to be real nice to my wife before asking her to come pick me up at the airport at like 10pm or later! ;)

The group from Bilenky Cycle Works has been promoting a package to ride in with them from Philadelphia on the Amtrak "Empire Builder". That seems like it would be a hoot.

I booked through Travelocity since they offer discounts on the combined airfare / hotel package. It was the best I could do as far as a deal went. The hotel the show is being held at is apparently long sold out for the weekend, but several hotels within a half mile or so are still taking reservations.

Before we know it the show will be upon us and even more than the show (heresy?) I am looking forward to meeting and spending time with some of my favourite BFR's.

Now this is not to say that I don't like, and some would even say love, bicycles and do aspire to join the ranks of those that build them but it's the people who ride them that I am really fond of.

So I'll be picking up my passport next Friday and booking my flight this week (:) :) :) ) and between now and then I have to find/build a case for my Phillip's 20 so I can take my wheels with me.

I am so looking forward to everything.

OK, I've been checking Travelocity and Kayak. I have 3 friends in 3 different houses up in Portland, so lodging is taken care of for me.

Nice deal on the ticket el twe, I looked at SWA (my father was a Captain with them for better about 15 years, retired around '96), but being so far away I had to make more than one jump to get there. Look forward to seeing you there.
