I'm considering the 2008 Fuji track bike and other similarly priced; mercier kilo tt, pista. Any reason to get one over the other?

looks is the main reason. rims is a close second. saddle is a close third.
i'd go with the 08 fuji myself...
because i spent more than that building my mercier up and it's basically too similar to split hairs on, cept for uniqueness.

At that price point all the bikes are setup very similar parts wise. Not crap and totally adequate rides. Biggest differences would be in the details, threaded or threadless headset, Waterbottle mounts, Cable guides for rear brake, drilled for both front and rear brake, eyelets for fenders or racks.

The Fuji fork is ugly as sin, but I ride one (an '06) and like it a lot.
I really wish mine came with bottle cage bosses though.

I'd take the Kilo TT over the Fuji.
It's stem is perty.
if you're looking in that range check out the raleigh rush hour. dope bike. same price range.

Fit is the most important IMO.
Frame, fork, wheelsets are usually the priorities because they are pricier to replace.
Aesthetic appeal is important intangible.
Also:
- brake bosses if you intend to install brakes.
- water bottle bosses if you intend to install bottle cages.
- tire clearances if you intend to install wide tires.

I'm in the same predicament, my LBS also has a schwinn madison that looks really cool. I think I want the Pista however

What is ugly about the Fuji fork? I can't seem to get a good clear picture of it

What is nice about the Kilo's fork? it looks like it places the wheel really close to the frame that may cause toe overlap at low speeds, at least for the small sizes.
Regardless of fork talk, that Alien frame looks great! How much does a complete bike cost? Do you have more info on those?

Oh, and check out IRO. Probably the best deal in that price range.

I have a pista but I'd say get a mercier just for the fork.

The Kilo's geometry looks reasonable. I cant comment on performance tho, I'd have to ride one first. I was talking pure aesthetics. I love the Kilo's profile angles, especially the way the fork rake matches the seat stay angle - with a curve no less. They pretty much nailed it.
The Fuji's fork is very nice, the Alien's is awkward.
Not sure about complete Alien bikes.

Seriously? You think that $400 is reasonable for a standard cro-mo frameset with no braze-ons, and a fork that's not drilled for a brake? Wow.
Anyway, people just like the Kilo fork because it's lugged and flat-crowned, like a more traditional fork. It's very attractive, but offers you no performance value over the crown on the Fuji Track, or any other steel fork.

I know, wow.
I like lugs and I don't want braze-ons (there's pleny on my other bike). I haven't seen anything more appealing in that price range - so for me it's definitely reasonable.

It's a unicrown with no embellishment, and there's a really ugly weld-line where the steerer joins the top of the fork. It's probably the ugliest steel fork I've ever seen.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm sure they're all fine bikes. I got a local deal on a green Mercier.
