Are there and if yes, who are the frame builders in the Los Angeles area?

The only one I'm aware of is the following in San Dimas.

Think you might have to travel to San Diego for a few or Jim Kish is a couple/few hours north in Grover Beach. Worth the drive IMHO.

Excellent frame builder out in Yucca Valley near Palm Springs if you can get ahold of him. First class equipment and well trained but only works sporadically. nick@gypsycycles.com

Russ Denny. Look closely at the SoCal peloton, and you'll see many Russ Denny frames (not always labeled as such), especially under the fastest riders.

I met the Townsend guy up in Pasadena while I was tabling for one of the bike co-ops he was a nice guy.

A friend of mine Reed has recently started up a frame building company called Golden Pony. Up until this point he was doing Level Components which make some very pretty track hubs. http://www.levelcomponents.com/

contact info is here http://www.levelcomponents.com/news.html
