Commuting - Camera on bike?

I've often thought it might be fun to mount a cheap camera on my bike to catch some of the more bizarre things I see on my commute...like the occasional near right hook and other near-misses, or the guy on the bike I saw today...temp. around 20, in cutoff shorts, with the fluorescent red legs, who crossed the yellow line to pass about 20 cars at a red light. Sheesh.

Anybody ever try such a thing? Maybe with a remote switch so as not to miss those "Kodak moments".

Helmet cam?

Depending on what you want to spend, Oregon Scientific make a nice helmet cam with an SD card slot. There's also the Tony Hawk helmet cam for a good bit less.

I've got the old model Oregon Scientific camera. It works OK but I stopped carrying it because I have a beautiful country commute with so few cars that nothing really ever happens to me other than the occasional deer jumping across my path.

It's a nice idea... but is your camera going to be 'on' when those bizare moments happen? I keep thinking they'll have passed by the time you turn your camera on...lol

Yup, if that's the type of stuff (spontanious) you're looking to capture, you're gonna need a helmet cam with some sort of storage device that will allow you to run the camera the entire ride. I've mounted a digital camera to the top of my bars, and have had some success with pix and vids. Certainly nothing exciting, but here are a few examples: (fyi, Windows Media format) :)

Also, you may want to turn down the sound a bit as wind noise is a bit of a problem. :o
