Classic & Vintage - picked up another bike today (torelli)

this is my first roadbike as well as my first post. hopefully im posting this in the right section cause i dont know what qualifies a bike as vintage. all ive been told is that this is a pre 80s frame, and that i should not molest anything on it. anyone know anything about torellis here?

That cable routing inside the top tube was more common on mid to late 80's, early 90's frames.

I think the OP scored a really nice bike here as the paint is in excellent condition and I've found that the inner cable routing was also indicative of a higher end frame.

Did you just get that from LA craigslist? A friend of mine at UCLA showed me that, unfortunately it was too big for her, and I can't afford another bike right now.

Many Torellis were built by Mondonico and imported to the USA as unpainted frames for final paint and prep. This looks like a late '80s "budget" model (based on tre-tubi Aelle frame) so probably not built by Mondo (but not certain either way). It's NOT junk, just made to offer quality at a lower price point. I bet it rides just fine, most Torellis do, so ride and enjoy it. DON'T do anything surgical to the frame if you ever want to return it to multi-speed, for yourself or another.

Yep. My guess is late 80's/early 90's due to the recessed brake bolts and internal cable routing. I found a good deal on a Torelli from roughly the same era for my gf but hers has the funky rubber cable guides that plug into the holes in the top tube.

Not junk by any means.

thanks for the info guys. so far im very happy with this bike. its so much more faster then my 40+ lb specialized p1 with a semibent rim in the back lol.

I recently sold a 57cm Torelli Countach (lugged steel Columbus Zona tubing made by Mr. Mondonico according to Bill McGann at Torelli) to a fellow and he loves it. The bike was in near-new condition and looked great, but he says it is a wonderful rider also.

I also recently purchased a 53cm Torelli Super Strada (silver metallic in Columbus SL Tre Tubi lugged steel tubing) that is in excellent condition, with only a few marks from being ridden a handful of times, then stored for ten years. As mentioned, it is a 53 c-c with a 54cm top tube, so is smaller than what I usually ride so not sure if it will stay or eventually go. I would like to have a Torelli in my size (54 or 55 c-c) because I hear nothing but great things about them.

You might want to replace the rear brake cable and housing. It should not be that taught. In fact it looks like you wouldn't be able to turn the handlebars at all! though that could just be the pics. Looks great!
