No matter who is picked for the championship game a lot of people are going to be disappointed. Although it would be nice to see UGA vs OSU, I can't see them sending a team that didn't win their conference.

Have you seen the idea for a playoff? It was on Yahoo Sports earlier this week. I think it's a great plan. At least most of the best teams would have a shot at the Title instead of a flawwed system just picking two teams.

Aren't we locked in to the BCS system because of the tv contracts for the next few years?
I'd love to see a playoff, maybe something with the champions of the 6 major conferences, with the top two teams getting a bye the first round

It actually had all 11 getting in automatically to allow for the "Cinderella" story and 5 at large bids. This year it was most of the top 16 BCS teams, though that is all tossed up now. With 16 teams it works similar to the sweet 16 in NCAAB. High seed plays low seed in two brackets leading up to the final. Higher seed would get home field advantage until the Championship which would be in a neutral location.

January madness!!!! Same schedule that basketball has ... now that's a playoff!
Well as sad as it is to say the ex-Pres of the SEC, Roy Kramer came up with the stupid BCS debacle we are in now. He did wonders for the SEC and how it divided into separate divisions and showed a playoff system could work. Many conferences followed his lead, but he should be flogged every damn day for the BCS crap. Roy Kramer, your a putz.

I dunno about the US, but over here in Oz, BCS generally stands for a specific type of waxing. Namely, the "back, crack, and sack." Puts a completely different spin on the thread title :D

Here's the plan for a playoff system. I don't know how long Yahoo will keep the link good so enjoy it while it lasts.

I say the winners of the BCS Championship should, in addition to the glory and hype (and tons o' cash to their school and/or conference), have to have a good old-fashioned Oz-style BCS waxing. This is just the kind of cross-cultural experience that could make world peace achieveable in our lifetimes.

It's a travishamockery. But then, it's been that way since Knute Rockne and Red Grange were around. There's no fighting city hall on this one, unless you have pockets deep enough to buy out the bowls.
The NCAA has three football divisions that provide a tournament-style champion. Perhaps one of those can bring some sense of satisfaction?
Or perhaps you'd be interested in any of the plethora of other sports that have NCAA championship tournaments. Currently I am excited that my alma mater Bradley University has made it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship after upsetting Indiana and Maryland. Next up is Ohio State. Go Braves!
If not, March Madness is only three months away. The First and Second rounds provide the greatest four day span on the sporting calendar, bar none.

I went to UGA, so needless to say, I am incredibly disappointed.
What pisses me off is that not only didn't we get a shot at the title, but we somehow got bumped down in the polls.

Imagine if VTech had beaten Boston the first time too (BC came back and scored two TD's in the final minutes), they'd be 12-1, and could have been ranked ahead of LSU (who destroyed VTech) in the BCS standings.
BCS = garbage. Only way it'll be gone is if one of the 'good ol boys' gets screwed by a non good ol boy...

In the plan there would still be some big games played in big venues, the big money could still sponsor those. And money would still pour in. Plus all of the smaller bowls would be played, just not with the top 16 teams. I think it's only a matter of time before NCAA starts a playoff, especially after this season.

Your picture definitely confirms my memories of girls in Athens. ;)
Well from what I understand now is that the fly in the ointment is the Big 10 Commissioner. He is the schmuck that is sticking with this BCS crap now that Roy Kramer has moved on.

It will only last so long. After this year, with all the controversy, I think there will be a big push to change things when the current contracts run out.

They say the current system won't change because of the money. If you want to see the BCS replaced with a playoff, boycott the bowl games. It's that simple.
They all suck anyway. Well, not the Rose Bowl. The thing I hate to hear is that a team will be invited because "they travel well", meaning the fans will shell out money just to see their team play one more game. This is the epitome of why the bowls are meaningless.

Absolute agreement here. There are many with a serious vested interest in the current system. The only way I see a change happening would be a boycott. And let's be serious - that's not gonna happen.
Much like the crappy NFL overtime rules - we're stuck with it.
