Foo - Modship.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think we need some more mods around this here place, things are fun but some things have been said that have been going overlooked. Feeling have been hurt.
We need two mods from two different worlds.
I nominate Siu :).

What do you look for in a Moderator and how does that process work? It seems like people just start being mods all of a sudden. Obviously there's some behind the scenes communication, but is there an open application process that I'm missing or is it like a moderator secret society where you get together and identify candidates? Nothing wrong with either way, I'm just curious.
ps. I have no interest in the job. Nothing really offends me, so I'd be inclined to leave all sorts of questionable material on the boards, but I'd be deleting all sorts of things that I personally find dumb or annoying. So I'm really not qualified anyway :p
At least in Foo, it seems like the "locals" are the ones selected. If you only frequent these boards once in a while forget it.

There is a discussion with all the mods about whom we think would be a good fit. People that are active at times of the day when needed. Its mostly a discussion and goes from there. :)

Not a chance. There's maybe three of them with any sense.

Okay Maxi. How about this.
Why would you want to be a mod?
Do you feel that you can be fair and honest in your handling of certain situations?
Can you provide a balance and be even keeled?
What are your objectives for being a mod? :)

In honor of both your posts, I wrote this little poem:
One of you is right on track
the other one is smoking crack
a mod named Siu just might do
while one named Max would make me spew

<raises hand> I did.
<raises hand> I did.
Where did he first perform it?
I would definitely vote for Siu as a mod, were it to go to a vote, and were she willing.
I would also vote against myself, so take that with whatever grain of salt you deem worthy.

Oh God, I started into this thread to say something meaningful and all that about mods and what not, but damn I'm laughing so hard I've forgotten everything I wanted to post about. I'll be back later after I've stopped long enough to remember. :roflmao:
Folsom?
I believe that answer is correct.

I did not, but it totally sounds like something Shel Silverstein would write. "One Piece At A Time" kinda has a Shel Silverstein feel to it too.
A boy named Siu? :)
How many mods are there, by the way? For all of BF, I mean.

A mod is a rare and unique individual. Wise enough (leaves out max) to decide when someone is just a troll or just having a bad day, wise enough to know when to keep a thread alive, and when it is in a death spiral. Wise enough to deal fairly when those they don't like, and not permit their friends to get away with murder (slight maiming is generally okay)
And foolish enough to work for no pay while not being appreciated.
You have half the qualifications Max.
I am assuming Siu will need to be hogtied - but that is okay. I suspect by now Brian is shackled with chains... :D
Dude... Max is nobody's fool.

Why would you want to be a mod?
To further my attempts at world domination.
Do you feel that you can be fair and honest in your handling of certain situations?
Maybe. Most likely there would be floggings.
Can you provide a balance and be even keeled?
I know haw to maintain an even keel, I was in the Navy.
What are your objectives for being a mod? :)
Adding more emoticons, making everything go to eleven, and making the forums clothing not optional. Oh yeah, world domination too.

Now, I've never been to the US, but very often when I see US police officers (male!) on TV or in a picture, they look pretty much like that guy. Proper and boring haircut, and that mustache. Is that like an informal "dress" code?

I let the moderators choose them, and then they vote. It's very informal.
Except for the bribery part or did you change that?

That was a one-off. And I nixed the topless photo deal after Tom sent me his. ;)
