I know zip about BMX bikes as I'm usually found on the MTB, Road or C&V forums. Anyway, last weekend I went to a garage sale where they cleaned out all their old bikes, including two Trek BMX bikes. I picked up the old Trek MTB, a kids bike and both BMX bikes. So I'm curious to find out if either of these would be considered a quality bike.
The first is a Trek TR10. It appears to be in good over-all condition. The chain needs complete cleaning, the head appears to house a 1 1/8 steerer. There are brakes on the front and rear. The hubs don't appear to be anything special, the rims are substantial, typical BMX type. The crank looks like an Ashtabula type, nothing special. I'm guessing a good entry level bike???
The second bike is a Trek Sub 0 Dude (I think, at least that's what the decal says). The seat looks like something right out of the Adam's Family. Not shown in the pics are bolts that go through the seat springs, that come right through the seat and into the rider's butt. Interesting. The chrome is heavily rusted, the crank is an Ashtabula type, the head is in very bad shape (loose and dry) and is 1", no larger. The rims and hubs look nice, the brand name on the hubs and rims is FEMCO, the front is a FR11 and the rear is a PR11. This bike looks like its not worth trying to rebuild, but then, that's one of the questions I'm asking.
Any input, thoughts, etc. on these two is appreciated.
Oh yeah, these will not be for me, maybe one of my sons or maybe a flip or donor, not sure yet.
