Which one, what happens in it, and why is it your favorite?

the book:
"The Lorax"

the premise:
The Once-ler cuts down all the truffula trees to make thneeds, leaving all the animals homeless and the skies polluted.

why it's my favorite:
Even when I was four years old I loved the woods, and the thought of losing them forever scared me. I loved it then and I love it even more now that I'm old enough to "get it".
When I first moved here there were lots of great mountain bike trails. Most of them were quite short, but they were there. Now most of them are housing developments or parking lots. A MUP may eventually go through the same woods, but it just won't be the same.
Every time I ride by new construction, I want to find the white hard hat and yell "STOP MAKING THNEEDS!"
We should all be so lucky to have a Lorax around to warn us when we do things without thinking about them.

The one that appealed most to me was "And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street"

A close second is the Grinch.

I actually discovered this as an adult, but I think it's the coolest of his books.

Mine has to be "Hop on Pop" because I'm a Pop. Also, my two year old son always starts to cry when we read the part about the bad day that dad had to him. I know its kinda mean but its very funny. He gets all pouty and starts wailing...I feel guilty as hell, but the wife and I get some kinda silly enjoyment out of it.

Cat in the Hat was the first book I ever read, so that one is special to me. But I liked every Dr Suess book I read and I couldn`t pick just one favorite.

My mom's favorite was "Oh, The Places You'll Go!", Seuss' last book.

I've always loved The Sneetches.

I should pick up a few Seuss books. I haven't many since I was a child.

I have this one. It also contains the story of the pale green pants with no one inside.

I know it's not written by Dr. Seuss (P.D. Eastman)but I always lumped it in that category SNORT!

http://www.lee-knight.com/Main/images/cover_art/are_you_my_mother.jpg\

I also LOVED "Go Dog Go" by P.D. Eastman (I liked these as a kid better than the Seuss books)

But strictly speaking, written by Dr. Seuss, probably "Horton Hears a Who" followed closely by "Green Eggs And Ham"

It's not Dr. Seuss, but my kids loved Zigger Beans:

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3720/873/320/zigger%20beans%20title.1.jpg

"Jon the mouse was feeling mean,
until he ate a zigger bean.
It made him sing a zigger tune,
a-zigger, zigger, ziggering,
beneath the golden moon."

Jon the mouse was a stoner.

As for Dr. Seuss, I loved Yertle the Turtle.

Green Eggs and Ham - that crazy train and the familiar dialog.

Many moons ago, David Letterman's "Top Ten" list featured "Top Ten Rejected Dr. Seuss Titles."

My second favorite was "Hop on Mom."

My absolute favorite? "My Pocket Rocket Needs a Socket." I'd like to think that, somewhere, the good Mr. Geisel left a draft of that one, just waiting to be discovered.

My all time favorite is Green Eggs and Ham.

Why?

I was watching Saturday Night Live eons ago and they had the Rev Jesse Jackson read Green Eggs and Ham as part of a news bit. That has to be the funniest way that book was read, ever.

I like the Lorax, -- for its environmental message, and Horton Hears a Who, because it teaches the importance of independent thought and ignoring life's idiots. Jim Carey is going to be Horton's voice in the new animated film by that title in March 2008.http://www.hortonmovie.com/site/index.html

But here is a wacky for adults only Dr. S. I guess it is the perv in me. One of the thousands of things, (including the crack of dawn), that really gets me hot. Repressed Anglo-Saxon noblewomen, riding naked on horses, yeah! All those Suesian bums and breasts. Who needs National Geograpic when you've got access to this.

For some reason I do not like "the places you'll go"

Picking a favorite Seuss book would be like picking a favorite child.
I have a copy of all of his books penned under Dr. Seuss and Theo Le Sig except for a copy of I Can Draw It Myself. The Cat In The Hat is one of the great subtly subversive kids books of all time. Horton Hears A Who would probably be my favorite of his overt message stories and Green Eggs and Ham is just fun to read.

Especially the "The Zax" - now there's a story I'd like to force feed EVERYONE in the middle east. Right before I carpet bomb them :D

Two years ago I started playing bass with a rock band called The Lorax:

In hindsight, I wish a Lorax had been around to warn me about joining The Lorax without thinking about it...

the story of the pale green pants with no one inside.

That's funny, I was just going to make a reference to "pants with no one inside" over in the Passed Out On The Floor Last Night thread.

Oh, nevermind, long story, has nothing to do w/ Dr. Suess...

I would have to say "The Lorax" is my favorite book with "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" in a close second. I have a tie for both.
