Pick her favorite, anything other than roses. Girls seem to love daisies and tulips. If you feel that you must send roses, I'd steer clear of red. It just seems too serious.

I agree with lucky53s. I would much rather have tulips than roses. Go with what she likes.

I like live flowers. Buy her an orchid.

If not, I agree with others that roses are to be avoided.

Purple you say ... Maybe too much $ though.

The roses I've purchased from here have been very good.

Towlie, right now the reason the tulips are so expensive is because tulips are spring time flowers. In able to get them during winter, they have to be hot house grown ($$$).

This may sound cheesy but sometimes....handpicked flowers from somebody yard, nicely arranged in a vase can mean a LOT more than one from a delivery place.

That means he took the time out to pick them, put them in a vase (haphazardly at that) and bring them to me.

That is waay more special than any kind of money a guy can spend.....TIME, THOUGHT and CARE.

But then again, that's just me. :)

I like the Christmas tulips...but who knows if my tastes are anthing like hers.....

But, that being said...my boyfriend also knows, that I am cheap and hate seeing money spent on something that is going to die in a very short period of time... He knows I would rather have a plant or something I can keep forever. Is she a flower person? Some women are...obviously some are not....

A single white rose is nice. Even better if it's home grown. :)

I like the tulips too. But that's just my personal preference.

Dunno where he lives, but my world is -20°C right now, with a lot of snow on the ground. No handpicking flowers here........

White flowers mean death in a lot of cultures.

Best thing about my girl. She don't like flowers.

I would bring her strawberry cheesecake or cookies. :D

Some places sell chocalate roses...that would cover both the candy and the flower at the same time.

The first flowers I ever sent my wife, forty years ago, were pink roses. Red was just too passionate for a 17 year old boy.

I'm glad i don't live in one of those cultures. :p

She told me those where her favorites. It's one of those things that i've put on the "DO NOT FORGET" list. :D

Hey Psydotek!

Just so you NEVER forget, how about a white rose plant? Put it in the yard and she will always have her white roses!! :)

Bleh, click and send flowers annoy me. Buy a cheap non-rose assortment, put in a vase and deliver yourself would mean a LOT more.

I'd be annoyed with flowers though. My boyfriend knows I want a Craftsman 1/4" drive deep metric socket set and nothing says "Love ya" like a lifetime guarantee. ;)

I luv mixed floral arrangements - especially with lilly's (stargazer is used a lot) in it - I had about 50 different lilly plants - all at my old house (grrr) - they are my orchid of the outdoors.

I do have a white rose tree at home. ;) I'd get her one but she doesn't quite have the knack for keeping plants alive... At least not while she's still living with her parents. Not much room either...

Oooh, that's a VERY good idea. Or start her a container herb garden. Then you get to benefit from fresh mint juleps and mojitos all year too. ;)

When I was looking for a birthday present for the boy toy I got annoyed. Everything he wants looks like a thinly veiled gift for myself when I'm the one buying it. Tire bar? Yup, he changes my motorcycle tires. Anything to work on the bikes is really the same way. ;) When he finds motorcycle gear he likes he buys it, so I might just get him a bunch of WIX filters and be done with it.

OooOOoo I'm intrigued :) I guess my last boyfriend of 8 years was considered boy toy material (11 yrs younger) :D

11 months younger, but I have to tease him about it because on our first date he said he thought he'd never date an older woman.

It's REALLY annoying because his birthday is early Dec, then there's Christmas, then mine is mid January. I'm thinking we should skip Christmas and just have a birthday present exchange half way between them :D

I sent my then girl friend (now my wife of ... 16 years come the 12/18!) 2 dozen red roses... I had an "in" with a florist - YEAH BABY! She was a high school senior at a school I didn't go to so of course all her friends embarrassed her.

Having said that...I'd go for an orchid today (though they seem to be popular).

My experience with my wife and flowers is like this:

Live plants of any kind get a "Now I have to take care of it!"
Mixed arrangements get a "That's pretty." or "I really like the (one of the included flowers)."
Roses get tears (the good kind) every time.

My problem is that I can't go much younger and stay legal. If I want to get them drunk, the options are VERY limited since I'm 24.

It's the best I can do for now. One tempting reason to go into academia is that even though I keep on getting older, the undergraduates stay the same age. :p
