Yeah, it has been raining buckets all night. I am starting to wonder about the Green River levees--there was a story in the Times just a few days ago about them:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/eastsidenews/2004041546_floodmaps29e.html
I know I am out of the floodplain, but it's an interesting thought, especially with as much rain as we have gotten the last couple of days.

It was wet, but it wasn't the dire end-of-the world that the media was reporting. In riding from Burien to downtown, I only hit one really bad area, that along Airport where the storm drains had apparently clogged up and the water forced me over into the left of the two northbound lanes. Other than that, I didn't really do much different than take the lane a little more often to go around puddles.
The warmth was actually kind of nice. My old, arthritic knees appreciated the change of temperature from last week.
So, where was everybody this morning. I usually see 5 or 6 riders before I get to the waterfront, then a whole gaggle of them coming off the ferries. This morning I saw only one other rider the entire trip. Y'all stay home or something?

My night off! I went out and raked leaves out of the street to unclog drains instead.

I'm interested to see how bad it is when I'm heading home. The Sammamish was really close up to its banks this morning at 5:30am on my way in. It could be a very wet (and windy) ride back to Redmond this afternoon.

A lot of roads are closed in the Mill Creek and Bothell areas as well. I walked around the neighborhood and cleaned all the leaves out of the drainage grates.

Sorry to hear about your getting flooded--it looks as if Portland is getting hit by the same storm as up here, with more of the same to come :( .

My roof sprung a small leak and is dripping down a ceiling air vent - grrrrr! Giant rocks from the hillside are sliding onto Barbur Blvd. There was also some street ashpalt pushed up on that same boulevard from what I presume to be the root system of an adjacent tree.
My Sunday run through Fanno Creek trail was epic! I was forced to combat high wind and ford through rushing water to continue on the trail. While stomping and splashing my way through a 15 mile run, I spooked many a water fowl, squirrels and nutria yesterday!

Wow, it sounds as if Portland has gotten hit just as hard as we did up here. Hope that all of you down there (and all of us up here) are ok.

Went out for a walk around downtown Seattle at lunch. Actually, I'm a manager and one of my guys has a birthday today, so I had to buy him his Beer and a Balloon I give on birthdays. Anyway, it was off-and-on during my walk. Sometimes it was just drizzling, sometimes actually raining, sometimes raining sideways. I was kind of tempted to go back and get my rain gear, but it's all hung up and drying for the ride home tonight.
I guess this stuff isn't supposed to break until tomorrow afternoon now. Nice to have reliable weather forecasts.

We had a leak in a 1-yr-old window in my boyfriend's condo. I stayed home in the AM until my boyfriend could drive up from Olympia, then, he took over. Repair person should be there about now...
I drove in, mostly because I wanted to stay late to make up the time. Good thing too; a colleague took the bus, it took him 2-2.5 hours to get to work, with buses unable to get through the flooding. I'll probably leave early to drive him home. He's got a little-one to pick up.
*At 11am, Westlake was closed from Valley (the street closest to south end of Lake Union) to the Fremont Bridge (but the bridge and Nickerson and Dexter were open).
*My colleague said that the Rt 70 bus couldn't make it through the water at the south end of the University Bridge.
*And, there was flooding at Greenwood and 85th--again, buses couldn't make it through.
*A fund raiser for Gov Gregoire was canceled, per the emergency with the rain. Oly riders be careful too!
Anyone got links for Seattle street closures?

Well, the sump pumps they put in the storm drains are keeping our garages dry. The apartment I live in is really a terrible design for the PNW - the garages are below street level. If the property management company employed clever people, they'd re-landscape with bioswales. That said, they still can't figure out the problem other than it appears the storm drain pipe might not be connected to the sewer main. (It's supposed to be.) It looks like they're going to have to excavate.
I had to go to the post office to mail a letter this afternoon and I noticed an interesting thing. There were lots and lots of flooded intersections, but the ones that had bioswales were nice and clear. They've got to get more of these put in...

Where I live in Columbia County, we are somewhat sheltered from the south wind by the Tualatin Mountains where they run into the coast range. Winds here were mostly 15 to 30 mph sustained with some gusts to 40. Not too many trees blown down and we did not lose power. We did get more rain than Portland... 5.43" in the past 24 hours, measured by the weather service at Scappoose Airport. There has been a lot of lowland flooding and my road is under water. Things should get better by tomorrow.
I haven't heard about any serious problems in Rainier but the highway (US 30) is closed in several spots between here and Rainier due to slides.

Glad to see that you are all right, Dogbait.
I forgot, there's a Rainier in Oregon, too, along with a Johnson Creek. There's a town of Rainier in the state of Washington, between Yelm and Tenino, which is where my friend lives.

From Oregon Public Broadcasting:
I-5 Closed Between Portland And Seattle, Could Be Days Before Reopened
By Austin Jenkins
Olympia, WA December 3, 2007 4:50 p.m.
For the first time in more than a decade, I-5 through Centralia, WA has been closed due to flooding.
Washington Secretary of Transportation Paula Hammond says the interstate through Southwest Washington could be shut down -- in both directions -- for several days.
Paula Hammond: “This is reminiscent of the 1996 flood where the water over the roadway from the Chehalis River had crept over I-5. We are now at the point where we’ve had to stop traffic.”
Travelers between Seattle and Portland will have to make a long detour through Yakima and the Columbia Gorge and over a mountain pass.
The Chehalis River is expected to crest at record flood stage Tuesday morning -- but transportation officials won’t predict when I-5 will reopen.

I remember those big floods in 94 and 96. I have a meeting to the west on Thurs, not likely to happen now, and in Portland next Tues/Weds, maybe will be open by then? They're talking about floodwaters at least receding by tomorrow/Thurs, but it's trees and powerlines causing problems in Grays Harbor and the coast.

This is wild.
How are things today everyone? Our condo window is still leaking, but only when it rains. :D
My route was dry, not as windy as I thought it would be. I made it into work in between storm bursts. I was hoping for a few deep puddles---that's what fenders are for---but there were none.

I'm going to see about checking out the local creek and see if it's flooded. Going home was not bad today--at least it was not raining on the way home.

Last night, at a major interesection in Mill Creek (132nd and 35th), there was a one foot deep pond across the roadway. I counted eight drowned cars in various road lanes, and there was a line of traffic over a mile long on eastbound 132nd approaching the intersection. Apparently, high-performance and low-slung cars don't do well with water on the roadway. Good thing my Escape just plowed right through it.

IT'S OFFICIAL
You can mark this one down as a Bona Fide PNW flood. We have had live TV coverage of salmon swimming across a highway. These must have been VC salmon because they were taking the whole lane.
The sun was shining most of the day in Eugene, it seems to have moved along. We are sending lots of water down the river to all of you in Portland....Happy Holidays!!
The wind knocked quite a few trees down, and there are branches and limbs al over the place, other than that we seem to be OK. The next three days are forecast to be sunny and bright, time to get out on the bike!
