It's an 8 series, in 57cm sizing, according to the numbers you gave. The frame is not carbon, but rather is a very plain, heavy, straight-gauged steel. These were the most basic bikes Peugeot sold, and if the 7-cog rear is original (not likely, BTW), it's more than 12 years old. More likely it's a 20 year old bike that somebody upgraded. It's worth maybe $20 in excellent condition, probably $10 in average shape.
Just out of curiosity, why did you think this had a carbon frame? It has to be about as light as a barbell.

the bike is very light and it says carbon frame in the sticker.well the sticker says peugeot carbon frame 104. the bike weigths about 15-17 pounds. i tell you is very light. please tell me i'm confused is these steel or carbon?>???
IF it's a carbon frame, it is probably a Peugeot branded Vitus frame with carbon fiber 3 main tubes. Not much way I can tell w/o photogs. Post 'em if you got 'em.

i found the info about the bike.like dave said is a cheap bike made with steel.the difference between the carbon and the steel made peugeot was that the carbon made had the sticker saying stronglite wich shared the steel fork and carbon frame with the sister company Vitus . In the other hand the other one was called carbolite 103 steel frame wich was made with cheaper components, some even made bythe same peugeot. well anyways I thanks everyone that try to answer my question and this does not change that I am not going to enjoy ridding this bike I will keep it and I will continue to go to the thrift store to see if i can find the other peugeot or any other good bike in that pile of bikes he he he !!
thanks to everyone to try to help me !!
IT was definately worth the money.
Are the rims aluminum or steel? If they are aluminum, then the wheels themselves are worth the money. In fact, I often sell seven speed freewheels for about $10.00, so you got a deal.
Ride and enjoy.

That's a nice bike. In pretty good condition. Looks like a deal to me for what, $6.00? I'll take it.
You got a great deal there. I would have taken that in a heartbeat!

Nice looking bike! Looks like Shimano 600 brake levers (the safety levers are easily removed). What kind of derailleurs?

Looks like one of the two Peugeot's I owned in Germany back in the late 70's. The first one was destroyed by an overanxious jockey in an F4E, and the second one, the pilot paid for as a replacement for the first one. On the second one, the right crankarm broke where it attaches to the bottom bracket. When I took it to a german bike shop for repair, the old man that owned the shop, just laughed and said something loosely translated as "Peugeots are junk". But it kept me on the road for another few years before I gave it away.
Oh yeah, that is nice - absolutely worth the $6.00- you paid.
Excellent. Enjoy it.
By the way, you said it is light. How much does it weigh?

Holy flashbacks....
IRRC...suntour derailleus? DBS (internally and externally brazed) frameset....
The 'carbon' only means its high carbon steel.
Awesome!
It looks much like my Peugeot carbolite 103 frame bike. I just got mine last winter (in pieces, I might add) for a set of SPD M530 pedals I wasn't using anymore (I don't know how smart that was!).
Mine's black and might be slightly newer than yours since mine has the braze-ons for the bottle cage and has the rear derailler hanger as part of the frame. The serial number: 3046981
I'm using it as a beater commuter bike with a TWO speed transmission (52-40 Stronglight crank, old Dura-Ace ft. derailler shifted with a bar-end, Regina GS Corsa freewheel w/20t cog, old non-functioning Campy rr. derailler to take up the slack). The bike is fairly light at 25 lbs with the Profile aerobar. The Phil Wood ft. hub on it is probably worth ten times as much as the bike itself!!!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot...
While looking at the pictures of your bike I noticed that the chainstays are MUCH longer than mine, even though the frame size is the same. Otherwise except for the color and graphics it's almost identical.

Well this is what happened i was ridding the bike on the street and i was passing an interseption in sandy springs(suburb of atlanta) and then this volvo didnt stop in a red light hit another car that was in the other line but this is the part a Truck about 27 ft try to turn right around the accident and didnt see me in the blind spot.Since i saw that truck coming to me the only time to react was to jump of the bike. That was the scariest thing ever happened to me the only thing i could recover from the crash was the front wheel.I had some minors scrashes but i'm fine .I will post later the picks about all the cuts and scrashes that i have in my legs, arms and the back. Now i received the call from the truck insurance company and told everything is gonna be fine;they get a new bike and aks me if i needed to go to the hospital but i told them i'm fine.i havent ride the other bike since the accident. i then i will take a week off !!!!this accident was so quick in just matters of seconds. I guest it was not my time yet to die!!!
:(

Make sure you get fitted for it! The last thing you need is for your new bike to be uncomfortable to ride!
I guess this means you won't be on the Classic & Vintage forum much from now on, huh? :D
Looks like one of the two Peugeot's I owned in Germany back in the late 70's.
Wow! I had a Peugeot that I really loved while I was living in Germany 1975-76. I was in Cologne. Where were you? Mine was basically a touring bike set up for the realities of German urban life. It was really nice, all white with chromed fenders with built-in head and tail lights. It did me well commuting in the constant rain and the dark winters of northern Europe. I never had a problem on the ice. I don't remember the cobblestones being much of a problem, but I was a lot younger then. However, friends advised me against getting narrow wheels and tires. There is the danger of going into the tram tracks. I was very careful about that. However, one beautiful Sunday, I was returning from a really great ride and the inevitable happened. It was at a complicated intersection where two tram lines crossed. I went into the track and was stunned by how instantaneously I went down. Got a bad cut on my knee. However, a taxi stopped immediately and the driver came out with his first aid kit. He patched me up and sent me on my way. It is so great when people care for each other.
I always regretted that I did not bring it back with me to the US. I was living in Michigan and that bike would have done me well there.
