I am looking forward to having a day off work and spending the day, or 8 or so hours, in the saddle. I think i could do about 210 to 250 Km's in this time. What is the maximum distance you have ridden in a single training ride? And what was it like? Any tips?

sorry, my longest ride was only about 80-90kms..

It only took about 3-3.5hrs... Only brought with me 1 bottle of water + 1 refill, 2 bananas..

There were only two of us... We helped each other out.. taking turns in front..

In a single day, 293km. Totally solo, some vicious hills in the Mullumbimby/Nimbin area, and a wrong turn that almost put me in Kyogle.

Not road bike, but still on the road ... My max distance was 48 miles, and my max edurance was 46 miles with 2 3-mile hills and one 7-mile hill.

100km about a month ago. I'm hoping to do a full 100 miles sometime this month provided the weather and wind isn't too bad.

The annual Grand Tour in SoCal, sponsored by the LA Wheelmen. I did the shortest which was 200 miles (320Km) in roughly 14 hours which included all rest and lunch stops. This was back in 1995. The other two routes covered 300 & 400 miles. I never did it again!....not my cup of tea. Century rides are alot more fun.....especially the Solvang ride.

My longest continuous ride was 322k (200 miles). Seattle to Portland (STP) 2002 in one day. That was my big ride for the year. It was good. Ate energy bars, fruit, bagles with peanut butter, and various stuff they had at the food stops, kept myself hydrated. No problems, but the knees were sore when I finished.

Wheel time was 9 hours 37 minutes. Average speed was about 21 mph. Pretty cool ride.

Next July I hope to ride in the RAIN (Ride Across Indiana) ... 157+/- miles in 1 day.

back in 1960 or 61 ??. I rode in a 'London--Bath--London' ride 210Miles + about 15 to get to the start &another15 to get home from the finnish !! I lost the certificate long ago ,unfortunatly, but I do rember being pissed off as I was a junior & I finnished it within the time for the older cyclists but only got credited with the juniors time:mad: But since Ive rejoined the 'brotherhood' 3yrs ago 100Ks has been my longest ride. I plan to try a 100miles soon but I ride on my own 99% of the time so I will mix &match 2 or 3 of my loops , taking in a few hills ect & I'll be able to swing by home for lunch + if I do blow-up I wont have too far to limp home ;)

I think my longest ride on a road bike was 126 miles. It was a century ride in central NJ that I and a friend accidentally did the 13 mile loop in addition to our planned century. At the cutoff for the metric and century, my friend decided to do the metric and I continued to do the century. The extra 13 miles I did was when I got lost for 6 miles and had to do a u-turn...

The most I've done on my MTB tourer was 120 miles from St. Jean sur Richelieu to Fort Champly to Burlington, VT. That was 120 miles on my MTB with semi-slicks and 2 full sized panniers in the back. That was a long day but mostly flat.

Just over 100 miles on the Emerald Necklace around Cleveland. It was an ALLLL day event and quite a few years ago. Miss those days a lot. These days 40 miles is good for me, but that will build too! Been out of the saddle far too long but happy to be on the road again!

I did the Waco Wild West Century twice in the mid-80s. And a couple weeks ago I did a solo century on the Katy Trail.

So, my longest single day ride is 100 miles.

53 miles. Only been riding about 5 weeks though. The biggest problem is the time. A full 100 miles looks like it will take me about 7 hours and that's half a day I could spend with my wife and kids. I should have been doing this in college.

Time is a problem here too. Im only off on Wed. and Sunday. The rest of the week I work from 8:00am to 8:00pm, so I dont get to see my family enough. I ride often, but I dont have time to ride huge distances. My longes ride was around 40 miles. I usually do around 20 to 25 on Sunday morning, and I ride anywhere from 10 to 16, four other nights of the week.

I have a bad back,,,,, Im not sure how it would react to a century. It gets pretty tight after 30 miles.

My 2 friends and I did 3 centuries in 3 days .... with about 40 lbs of camping gear on a heavy 10 speed bike.

By the middle of the second day we weren't speaking to each other.

106 miles in one day is my longest maybe one day I will try for a double but I really enjoy 50 to 60 mile tides the most.

100 miles (160 kms) exactly (100.2) Yesterday on Trans Canada hwy from Medicine Hat to Gulls Lake. Left the camp around 11:30, spent about 30 minutes replacing a spoke and finished the day at 9 pm... so it took close to 7 hours in the saddle with average speed of about 14.5 mph.

My longest ride was 45.12 miles which was this morning and I maintained a AVS of 17.2mph :) . Felt I could do more, but I've only been riding my road bike for a few weeks and understand I need to keep riding and slowly adding up my miles.

426k in May this year. A 400k brevet that became a litter longer after riding to the start and doing a little detour. I left home at 04.00 and came back 03.48 the day after. I drafted the only other participant for the first 100k until I had to continue at my own pace (he finished five hours ahead of me).

I try to usually do 50-75 k rides on a regular basis. I've rode 100k's once since I've had my bike a little over a month now. I plan on doing the 100k rides more frequnetly as my fitness improves. Just have to remember to bring enough food. I ran out on that last one.

85 has been the longest for me also. Did it a couple of times, first time on mountain bike, the road bike is much better for that...

Maybe it's just me but it seems nobody has answered the questions. He's asking for tips, not just numbers.

Have a good meal on the day before, a good night sleep, a good breakfast but nothing too heavy. Drink a lot before leaving and keep on drinking regulary during the ride. Eat something every couple of hours. Basically give your body some fuel and fluid but give it little at a time and more often. I like V8 juice.

The most I did was 185km on a tourer and by the end it was a torture. I did 175km last year (loaded tourer again) and it went well. I had a good tailwind though. I ran out of water at some point and when I finally got some, I also had a huge lunch. I took a long break. It was difficult to start again because I was too full but after a while, I was just cruising again. This year I did 167km with only one small pannier. I also had a good tailwind. I followed my own advice and it went really well. I think it's a good idea on planning to have a tailwind on the way back. That way, if you're too tired, at least you'll have the wind working with you.

105 miles on the C&O Canal Towpath (dirt and gravel trail). Was about 8 1/2 hours ride time, and 11 hours overall. I rode with a buddy and he needed to stop alot. That was last September (2002).

I just did a 103 mile ride on the same trail a week ago. 7 1/2 hours ride time, and about 9hrs to 9hrs and 15 minutes total time. I actually got slowed down on that one too due to riding with a slower group and then I broke some spokes in my rear wheel and had to wait for a mechanic.

whoa, did a 130 mile ride yesterday. It was the "Golden Apple" ride out of Westchester County, NY. I did the 125 mile route, but it was actually 129.62

8 hours of riding, and 45 minutes of stopping. We had perfect weather and it went by rather nicely. My longest ride to date had been 104.

Actually finished the ride 1 pound heavier so I guess I did a good job with nutrition and hydration.

Had done 47 on Saturday, so it was 11 hours in the saddle over the weekend, and today is a day off...but I miss it...I've got it bad...my wife has suggested CA (cyclists anonymous)
