Road Cycling - Lance, Tyler, new shoes, new pedals (a bit of everything)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, Lance and Kik are no more

I think God's sending Tyler a message: "Stop racing". Broke his femur this time. Three bones in one season. Hmmmm...

Just got new mountain shoes (so I could walk around off the bike) and the cleats still grind the ground some (at the tip and really only on rough concrete). Is this normal?

Is it sometimes harder to get out of one pedal then the other? I can get out of the left easier than the right and they're both at the lightest setting. I olled my right ankle pretty bad a few years ago. Could this have an effect? Will time in the pedals help me build up whatever I need to get out of the right easier?

I feel where you are. I have been in MB Shoes for about 6 weeks now and am just now getting comfortable with getting out of them. I also favor the left and do not have bad ankles. Seems like only time will help us both. I do feel a lot more at ease now than when I forst got them.

keep on keeping on.........

I forget the event, but it was his most recent. Apparently just happened a few days ago. He also signed w/ a different team.

legs are different strenghts, i can pop out one leg easier than the other, and the grinding noise is pretty normal in my experience.

It was the Tour of Holland crash that took out his middle finger. He started training and had pain in his leg so he proceeded to get it checked out to find he had a hairline fracture on his upper right femur. Subsequently Hamilton has called it a season ... hopefully he will be back strong, healthy, and with a little more luck next season.

This really depends on the cleat itself and it's placement .... but if you're walking on extremely rough broken up concrete you will still notice it hitting at times.

Yes this is pretty standard especially if you're not too used to clipless pedals. Another consideration is the pedals themselves and the cleats. If they're aged/worn then one might have been damaged just slightly causing it to catch when coming out of the pedal. If both items are fairly new and unworn then it's just a matter of getting used to it.

If it's your right foot that is having a problem it could be. Your ankle would certainly be weaker after an injury and will also be less flexible then an uninjured ankle.

Most likely yes. If it's a matter of a worn pedal or cleat then you leg will learn to compensate for it over time ... make sure neither of these items are too worn down though as you could cause injury if your leg over compensates for it on a weakened ankle. If it's a matter of your ankle and general uneasyness with the pedals then it will come with time. Just keep working at it and you will see it become easier and easier.

I think all of the people, who keep crashing into Tyler, need to call it a season. :D The poor guy probably looks forward to solo time trials.

So he's gonna miss the Worlds? Dang, surely a hometown winner, of sorts (Hamilton, haha).

wouldn't it be funny if he won in Hamilton, on a canadian bike (well if he still rode with csc/cervelo stuff  )
