There's been talk on this thread of the Vuelta wheels being offered in a 50mm carbon CLINCHER in addition to the 50mm carbon TUBULAR. I've already ordered and placed my deposit for the tubs, is there any chance that the clinchers are in fact available? If so, can I buy the clinchers instead of the sew-ups? Thanks!
Send an email to lindsay. I'm guessing she can do it. She'll check with her management. You're going from the item that was in most demand, probably to one of the least from the buzz in the posts. They were still taking orders for the tubs.

You do realize there is a significant difference in the price. 50mm clinchers $548, 50mm tubulars $398.
Damn all of you. I caved and ordered Team Ti with 1 minute to go. Boy do I have some explaining to do to my wife. I needed another bike like a hole in my head.

Yeah, I realize that. I figure that this cost will mostly be offset by not needing to buy new training and race sew-ups, since I already have race clinchers :)

I hope my RT700 is delivered while my wife's at work...
Happy New Year!
I finally ordered the RT700 size 55. Would love to know how many were sold.
I ordered the RT700 Friday and am looking forward to riding a newer lighter bike.
Formally ride a 9 yr old 2000trek I call it my ironhorse because it is heavier than newer bikes.
Clarification needed: I ordered the Bottecchia CF frameset and know I can use the Cane Creek IS2, 6 or 8 headset. My question is, does it matter if it's the tall or short model? The IS2 has both options. I don't want to order the wrong one.
Thanks for the info!

It should not mater. Tall or short is only an indication of the height of the upper cover. Obviously tall being taller than short. My personal opinion would be to get the short and if you need more space between your stem and the upper cover, use spacers. This give you the most flexibility if you want to lower your stem or run it as low as you can get it.

Cool! Thanks! I'm impatient so I didn't want to get the wrong part and then have to wait to return it and get a replacement. :)

Evoke frameset question.
Hello all and Happy New Year. I bought the the Evoke frameset and as wondering if the frame will be already preped. Do you guys think i will have to prep the bottom bracket and face it? I also read somewhere that the headset comes with, but I must install, do you suppose a sleeve will need to be pressed into the head tube? Just wondering because I was planning to build this bike myself but If I have to prep the frame I may as-well have a shop build the bike for me. I was trying to find the pics for the Evoke frame that were taken at Mikes house to see what the BB area "looked like" when out of the box.
Thanks

In case you don't already know: you'll need a 30mm seatpost clamp and a 35mm front derailleur clamp too. Enjoy your frame, I've been loving mine.

Don't know if they will be prepped or how much work will it take to install the headset (from Kestrel's website it looks like it is a Zero-Stack model ) but , at $608 , the added cost if any, should be insignificant . Although Mike did mention in the other thread that the RT700 sample he received was clean with no apparent need for prep work.

Thanks for the link. To me that BB area, magnified, looks pretty darn good. I'm just real anxious about this build and am trying to get my ducks in a row! 2008 is going to be a great year!

The headset will need a press. This kind of frame basically has the cups pressed and hidden in the headtube, from what I've read this is how I understand it anyways. Nashbar has headset presses on sale for $50. I'm almost thinking about getting one for that price.

That's how I understand it to be as well...the zero stack installation, that is.
Even Park has a decent priced home use headset press. Or one can always go the threaded-rod-and-washer Home Depot-method...I know it works fine!:p

If it is an Integrated headset frame, it doesn't require a press. You do have to order an IS headset with the proper contact angle, but once you have that, you can just set them in place.

Please re-read my earlier post. The Kestrel, according to the Kestrel spec sheet, uses a zero-stack headset, not an integrated one. While they may be similar in appearance, they are a little bit different functionally. You can actually take a look at the differences between the different types in the Park Tool website. An integrated headset uses the head tube itself to hold the bearings (which slip in by hand) whereas an internal headset (zero-stack) actually has to have cups pressed into the head tube. What happens is that they are low profile so they fit inside the head tube:after they are pressed in , the bearings slip by hand and from the outside they LOOK like an integrated headset. I already have a Cane Creek Zero Stack on order for when this frame comes in, even though Mike mentioned than an appropriate headset would be included (but not installed) with each frame.

Just curious where did you order yours? I saw Greenfish sports has the Cane Creek ZS-6 for $39.99, I will be doing more price checking on these. I wonder what headset is shipped with the frame set? The Evoke complete bike is spec'd with the CC ZS-6 and the RT-800 is spec'd with the ZS-2. Also thanks for the info on the Zero Stack, I thought it was the same as the IS.

Got it through a local shop for a bit more than the Greenfish price. I ordered it after I saw a built up Evoke with one. However, I ordered the one with the tall top cap to minimize the number of spacers used. I think it will look nice. We still do not know which headset BD is going to supply with the Evokes so I wanted to have mine already just in case I don't like the one that comes with it.
No headset included.
Nope. No headset included. Although the Bottecchias DO use an integrated one (IS-8 and similar).

I picked up the RT700. Can't wait for it to show up, but I'm glad its going to come at the tail end of winter. Chances are I'd try to ride it on all the ice we have. Probably wouldn't end well.

Yeah, I loved the detail and flowing lines on the RT700 so much, I had to get it. And since I could get the Dura Ace for a great deal (with all the other components as well), I decided to try it too. Right now I'm running Record on my PF RS. I'm looking forward to trying the DA and comparing them.
Oh, of course that wasn't enough either. I had to also get the 50mm tubulars! My first time with tubulars but since it was such a good deal, I went for it.

I ran down to Performance bike to pick up some Campy specific tools for the Evoke build. they still have the 2 Evoke's there, size 54, my size. These are 2006 model year, full Ultegra. The 53/39 is priced at $1900.00 and the compact is priced at $1500.00. These are some sweet bike's . As I'm drooling over these bikes, the manager comes over and says my wife just called and she said it was ok to buy one. We laughed and I explained how I have a frameset on order and my plans to build with Centaur. So at least when I get bored I can run down to the bike shop and look at the real thing to get me by!!

For those that got requests, when did you order? I ordered mine towards the end, just before the 25th. I was actually hoping it would wait until Feb., as it's my birthday (asking for forgiveness) and at least gives me a month from Christmas...
