It`s 4 cm, the same my Madone 5.2sl came with, but the Madone has a shorted head tube giving me some room if i want the about the same setup. The Madone is a more aggressive bike.

GOOD NEWS: Wheels are on the water as are the FLY Ti [means in within 3 weeks]
I'm _so_ looking forward to hauling that thing up a hill and making everyone around me hurt.
Nice bike but you really should be careful about the stack height. If you need that much rise I'd lose some spacers and flip the stem. That is far too many spacers.
looks very presidential.
Nice looking bike Madcow. Love the way the ES's look on there.

I'm not commenting on weather or not you have the correct drop I'm just saying from a safety stand point that is not how you should set your stack height. If you feel comfortable with the drop you have then you need to get more rise out of your stem and less spacers. 2.5cm is really the most you should have, although I've seen bikes with more without any problems. My guess is that you have close to 6cm there and that is too much.
2.5cm spacers is a conservative recommendation for carbon steerers. Alloy steerers are fine with considerably more than that. The Kestrel steerer is alloy.

Still I'd be suspect about the durability with that much stack height especially if the rider is out of the saddle much and really torquing the bars. You could easily remove one spacer by flipping the stem. Ask Big George about alloy steerer tubes not breaking.
plus its butt uglyBeauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most people don't draw the connection, but a standard threadless stem with a stack height of 40mm, and 40mm of spacers, and 10-20mm of upper headset race stack height is the same height, 9-10cm, above the top of the headtube as a standard Cinelli or TTT quill stem inserted to the minimum extension mark on a frame with a Campagnolo Super Record headset like this. Yet this kind of set up is never called butt ugly while a few spacers seems to get everyone all worked up. Get over it.

I'll post a pic of my built up kestrel too when my roommate is home with a camera. I had first ride today. Anyone that says the bike doesn't matter hasn't ridden a trek 1000 for a year then jumped on that rt700! I finally know what stiff means and how much easier it is to stand up and attack a climb while the bike is feeling responsive and bounces you back up rather then "flexing"
I have some ****ty training wheels on it with red pro race 2s but plan on putting some soul wheels on it soon :) Trying to figure out what is better 200g or 30 mm aero on their 2 lower price sets.
There is a slight toe / wheel overlap but I think it's the more aggressive frame geo and that their TT puts me on a size 51 @ 5'8.5"

I thought they decided George's broke because it had been weakened in a previous crash that day. Running 4cm of spacers on an alloy steerer isn't something I'd worry about. If it felt too flexy, I'd probably take some out and flip the stem though.

I have seen the steer tube on this bike when i built it and i am not worried at all about it snapping on me. Now when i stand up and drop 220lbs into the bike if i am going to worry about anything snapping its that carbon fiber handlebar. That steer tube is the least of my worries.

This is my first bike build and I got the parts from different sources (whichever is on sale/cheaper). Which explains the mismash of components. I've finally riden it for 50 miles and I'm a very happy biker .
Thanks to this community I was able to learn what and where to buy bike stuff.

I was waiting for Probikekit to get stem extenders in stock before ordering the black Vittoria Evo Corsa CX tubulars that they've had "more than 10" of in stock for quite a while. Got the email saying the extenders were in stock a couple of hours after it was sent yesterday. By the time I got onto the web site they were out of the extenders again and now out of the tires as well. So 'fess up, how many of you tubular wheel anticipators jumped on these?

I had the same problem you had, I had to buy them on two different orders when they were in stock.

What componentry do you have on there? I swear i'm seeing SRAM red shifters, an Ultegra SL crank/brakes, an Ultegra front derailleur, and a SRAM rival rear derailleur.

I like you Mike, but comparing yourself to Ghandi is a bit of a stretch.
Mike, I received a payment invoice for the 50mm clincher ($310 due now), but I ordered a 50mm tubular (should be $20 cheaper). I've sent out an email to you as well, any idea what's going on here? I wouldn't mind getting the 50mm clinchers instead of the 50mm tubulars, but let me know which one you ordered for me at any rate. Thanks for doing all of this!

I got something like this as well and I'm trying to get it sorted out with Lindsay as I type this. I ordered two sets of the tubulars but am getting billed for $620 instead of $580.
Thanks again for the deal Mike. Can't wait to get these wheels home!

It looks like I got a confirmation email on 12/24, so I guess that's the date. It's probably roughly based on what type of wheel they're pulling out and alphabetical, maybe. Of course, my last name starts with "O" so if yours is "N" than that probably isn't it.
On a side note, I also was request $330 for final payment. I'm having a hard time finding reference to the price of the tubulars though. Deposit was $120, so I'd assume the proper cost was $550? Also, no reference on if they are Campy or not. I ordered Campy but also bought a DA bike so either would probably be acceptable to me.

Since the price reference for the tubulars was on the group buy link which is no longer valid, I too had a hard time looking up the price. I found it by looking at the Paypal receipt for the deposit.
According to my records, the purchase price for the 38mm clinchers (Campy or Shimano) was $528.
I requested the 50mm clinchers and was informed that the price would be +$20, or $548.
I paid the requested $108 deposit so my balance should be $440.
Today I received a request for payment of $460, which I paid before checking the my records.
So, I'll send an email to Lindsay

Time to add item 21 to this adventure
Lindsay can not keep up with which wheels get $20 up charge for what
I'll fax her and we'll try to get everything straight
we started with idea of 2 wheels
somehow we ended up with 8
so I'm even confused
but please note: no customer will overpay and
Lindsay has no evil intent {that I know of - LOL - but who know what lurks in the mind of young women?}

Ok, I just checked my original receipt and the two Paypal invoices I received today, seems I overpaid $20 on each so BD owes me $40 back.
Original pricing
50mm Clincher $528 + 50mm Tubular $398 = $926
Paid deposit of $216 + Two paypal's today total $750 = $966
I am sure Mike and Lindsay will fix this, seems like a very fixable situation.
