Happy holidays

Over the course of the last month, forum members have suggested an assortment of items that could be offered for a holiday special & group buy

The results are at this link:

http://bikesdirect.com/products/12days/holiday12.htm

Brian at bikeforums.net will make this thread sticky in the near future thru the end of December
and at that time the link and this thread will be deleted

We do not have all pictures ready yet
but here is a rough idea of what is offered

Kestrel Evoke as Frameset OR Complete bike
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t213/bikedoctor/EvokeRedDA.jpg

Kestrel RT700 as Frameset OR Complete bike

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t213/bikedoctor/fly_team_TI600.jpg

I will put up better pictures as we get them
and I need to add that I am sorry there is no track, cyclo cross, or touring/commuting here
if this works well - next year's holiday season will get a wider selection
AND I am sorry there is only one Mountain Bike - but at least it is the best deal ever offered on a hardtail.

Have a great holiday season

Some of the items aren't shipping until APRIL? Ho ho ho!

Some of the items aren't shipping until APRIL? Ho ho ho!

Exactly
that is the idea
some members wanted to put a small amount down as a mini 'gift to themselves'
then recover from the holidays and get something new for spring

I think most of the buyers at this level already have one or more bikes
and like something new each season if they can afford it

Makes sense. Many folks in colder and wetter places probably won't be riding (or at least not riding the "nice" bike) for a few months anyway. I have to admit that your <20 lb Ti mountain bike looks pretty sweet for the money, although I don't know anything about that brand (Motobecane).

Shill.

Having make the requisite cry of indignation, I must say the Kestrel has my attention.

Although I will not partake in this Holiday Feast I suggest links for frame geometry...

I had to surf a bit to get all the information for each of the frames...

Enjoy the Holidays...

VUELTA CUSTOM CARBON FIBER CLINCHER WHEELSET
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t213/bikedoctor/vuelta38mmwireon.jpg

Have a great holiday season

Are these rims available seperately? That is a really good deal on a carbon wheelset < 1600gm. And also do you ship USPS to Canada (this is the only way canadians will not get ripped off on brokerage).

Your continue shopping button does nothing btw, was trying to get the RT700 and Carbon Tubies. BTW, any sort of refund is the wheels we get do not come close to the sample you got in terms of weight?

Oop i'm out. Non removeable decals + lame UPS shipping.

I've never regretted wandering from the tri forum more. Theres no way I will be able to justify this to the wife. But a Kestrel evoke frameset for $600 is a once in a lifetime kind of deal.
Wow.

I've been sitting here thinking a ti frame would be nice but those prices aren't that great...then I realized they're for a complete bike. I'd be on the wheels too if there was a 24f/28r option.

Isn't there a weight limit for 24/28H?

As most know; production weights can vary plus or minus a percentage or so

But if the wheels 'do not come close' to the weights of our samples
anyone who wishes can get a refund; of course

I do not expect that weights will be very far from the samples
as hubs; spokes and rims are known existing items

Mike @ BD,

I apologize if I missed this, but can one easily swap the freehub bodies on the CF Tubular wheels between Shimano and Campy? If so, what's the cost of the extra body? (Hope I'm using the right terms and my request makes sense)

Thanks.

Looking for the naked Bottecchia geometries anywhere on the bd.com website, or elsewhere. Anyone know them?

This is cool, but we need a titanium bike in a size that actually fits us taller riders. You're missing out on a big market.

When can we expect a titanium bike in larger sizes?

Some great deals... but nothing of interest to me.

I am already looking forward to next year when non-racers and non-wannabees may have an option or two.

Bring back the sports tourer... the bike that made some of the names you use famous... a bike for the rest of us. A Ti sports tourer would be sweet, or maybe stainless steel. That would get my money!! ;)

like Fred??

Well played. :)

Although, that being said, a Ti "sport tourer" with S&S couplers would be amazing. In the meantime, I think I may have to get a set of those carbon tubs for the cx bike. For that price I could also get a spare/pit wheelset for significantly less than ONE wheelset at retail. I feel like I'd be stupid NOT to buy one set at least, but it's hard to buy something totally sight unseen... especially with all those decals! Plus it's difficult not to be suspicious with those prices. :D

No. It is the same frame as the Pedal Force RS.

No. It is the same frame as the Pedal Force RS.

Right, but could it also be the same frame as these? Now that I am looking at them I think I see some small differences between these and the "Bottechia".

If I recall correctly, the Fuji is also significantly lighter from what people posted on their weights on that frame from the previous group buy.

You are correct sir.

The SL-1
The result of our C10 technology is an 890 gram (53cm) road rocket. Fuji’s SL-1 frame is one of the lightest, if not THE lightest, frames on the market today. The fork, weighing in at a modest 350 grams, is full carbon monocoque construction and strong enough to handle steep descents without a quiver.

Dangit, i was hoping for something with TT/tri geometry and a 78+ degree seat tube... Oh well, there's always next year. :)

They may be from the same mold, since ADK uses the mold for two frames, one being super light. The owner and a mechanic at my LBS said my frame looks the same as their "old Fuji's."

But the seat tube above the top tube looks longer on the Fuji to me.

NOTE FOR ANYONE GETTING THE WHEELS:

those of you going tubular will have to do an extra step when setting up these wheels. please, before adhering the tires to the wheels, inflate the tires over the wheels and either sit on the bike or ride very slowly and without turning. then true. the wheels have hidden spokes, so if you true the wheels without weighting them, glue the tires on, and then ride, the wheels may settle out of true, and then you have to redo the truing process which requires you to redo the glue process. great deals btw.

I also interested in a set of the 50mm tubulars. Will Bikesdirect ship to Australia and if so for how much and shipped via which company/carrier?

The point is do the break-in before gluing the tires on. If you can't do it, find the LBS you like to do it, before gluing the tubes on.

Just was wondering if 28/24H wheels mentioned above had any real-world wt limits... that's all...

Oh, LOL. My Ksyrium Elites hold me up pretty good but I don't trust most other wheels with less than 24 spokes...just not worth it at the speeds I ride.
