View Full Version : Passed out last night....

I don't really know what happened, but I was NOT drunk. I woke up this morning at 5 am, lying on the floor of my bedroom doorway, a can of diet Mountain Dew laying spilled on the floor. At the time I had no idea what happened, but I was so groggy that I just hopped into bed and went back to sleep. This morning, I woke up and had a huge knot on my head, my right hand was all cut up, and now I can barely walk because my knee hurts so badly. The only thing I can figure is that I woke up thirsty, went to grab a drink, then passed out while I was walking back to my bedroom. I've had many concussions in my life, and I'm not having any trouble remembering any of the events of last night or yesterday, except for what actually happened that put me on the floor. It was pretty crazy, and I'm kind of worried that this will continue. Has anyone else ever had anything happen like this?

I know that I should go to the doctor, but because I missed my insurance enrollment period when my dad died, the City (my employer) is now denying me insurance coverage starting this month, and I have yet to actually get that whole mess sorted out. Besides the injuries sustained, I feel completely normal today. Weird...

Maybe you tripped and fell? I did that not too long ago, I think. As far as I can figure, I got up in the middle of the night, tripped on something, fell, hit my face on the nightstand, and konked out until morning. It took me several minutes to figure out where the **** I was and how I got there (I was in a motel room somewhere in North Dakota). Scary as hell.

Hopefully that's all that happened to you, and nothing more serious.

How's your blood sugar?Heh, yeah. Should have mentioned that. Blood sugar was likely a variable in my episode.

I don't know... I've been tested for diabetes and everything was fine as of about six months ago.

Sometimes physicians will offer a discounted visit to noninsured people who can pay up front.

Alien Abduction.

The did experiements on you hand and knee... Then spilled some mountain dew... Okay, maybe not.

Glad you are okay.

Have you checked outside for crop circles? Sounds like an alien abduction gone wrong to me. Some people have adverse reactions to "the probe" and the aliens high tail it out of Dodge, after hitting you with the stun ray of course.

Crop cirlces would indicate that they had landed nearby.

You may be onto something... This was probably the alien in question...

No crop circles in my neighborhood in downtown Indy, though... :p

Urban crop circles look exactly like the marks left by sport bikes doing donuts. except they are green and luminescent, in most cases.

Oh my god, now I'm terrified... There are plenty of white trash crop circles around these parts...

Me thinks you got one of them date **** pills in your Mt. Dew. Did you check yourself <down> there?? Is everything all intact??

Good news is since you passed out when probed, they most likely implanted you with a transmitter that will alert future visitors that you are undesireable. The worst is over.

I just image-googled "men black camera" to see if I could find a pic of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones with that camera that erases your memory.

Well let's just say that I really wish I'd left safesearch on.

When I was younger, I would often get a little light-headed for a few moments when I stood up quickly. I had to pause for a couple seconds for the heart to push the blood to where it was supposed to be, and then I was fine. If I had gotten up in the middle of the night back then, and just taken to walking, I might well have just crashed on the floor.

Doesn't explain how you had a Diet Mt. Dew. Who buys that stuff anyways? It tastes like crap. You really need to look into that first, and then worry about crashing on the floor. :p :D

if your blood sugar was that low, enough to cause a problem, you would have been soaked in sweat.

if you were sweating at all,
or wet from sweat, it was low blood sugar

otherwise if you didn't sweat, it was not low blood sugar

bpohl, with your history of "many concussions" your episode last night raises serious concern. Go to an ER.

yep...also do you take any blood pressure medications? A sudden drop in BP can cause one to pass out almost instantaneously.

this is not always so. I personally have had low blood sugars in the 42 mg/dl range and the only symptom was a massive splitting headache. No sweats, no shakes, nothing bit that headache.

Well, in response to everyone's comments. I was not sweating, but I have no idea for how long I was out.

Diet Mt. Dew is amazing if you open your mind to it :D

I've had about seven concussions in my life, most pretty mild, but one pretty severe when I crashed going 35 mph down Skyline Drive into Front Royal, VA. That one left me dazed for quite a few days. I guess it could be related to that, which, I agree, is kind of scary.

No BP medications for me.

Seven concussions, no matter how mild, is a remarkable history, bpohl. And if you had one that left you dazed for days, that's a serious concussion. Actually, let's call it what it is- a traumatic brain injury. There are numerous sequelae that people who've had concussions can experience, from being "dazed" to headaches to seizures to periodic loss of consciousness.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a physician, although I do injury epidemiology and I've worked in head injury for a number of years.

You need to see a doc, and now. You could very well have post-concussion syndrome and you should be followed by a physician to rule this out and plan a course of observation and treatment.

If you've dented your melon that many time you really need to get to a doc and have it looked at.

Especially since this last time you woke up with a knot on your head, that's just that more potential damage done.

In these situations I take Tom Bueller's advice:

"Take a hot bath and wrap a hot towel around your head. Make some soup, then get a nap."
