Vehicular Cycling (VC) - VC Confessional

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I confess I used to spend more time on Bikeforums than I did on my bike.
.... spouting off that tired A&S 'relevancy' fallacy once again.....jeesh.
I wasn't talking about you, Mr. Beck. ;)
Be like a snowflake, baby, a snowflake... :D

And I wasn't referring to you, snowflake boy. you Can't see that?
Tonight, turning left, I turned left between two lanes of turning cars. The horrors.

I have a confession too. Sometimes, when car drivers honk at me, I don't assume it's because they're confused about my lane position.

Bless me father for I have sinned, I went through a stop sign without stopping when there was no other traffic, car or pedestrian, within a block of me.
How many Hail Marins or Mea Campy's do I need for absolution?

Sorry. I confess that I've become accustomed to rudeness from you.

I confess that I couldn't stand being a motorized commuter and realized with the use of our bike path system I can continue to enjoy a speedy trip that avoids the dangerous streets of Old Town Goleta and still get to work in a reasonable amount of time.

I celebrate your joy, and feel the same way about feeling comfortable riding my bike wherever I want, especially in the street.
They say 30 days of repeating the same routine makes it a habit. I'd say 10+ years of bike commuting makes driving a bit of a bore.

Oh rats. During your short-lived period of acknowledgement of the fact that motoring has some benefits, I was meaning to compliment you for being VC+.

Give it a rest.
After what, only one peep by me about "VC+" (which this thread has been searching, without success, for a definition of)?
Being a VC does not require that one motor. But those of us who do motor (more than the handful of times that the more-carfree-than-you-or-me crowd does) have a perspective that the more-carfree-than-you-or-me crowd doesn't. Having that perspective is what VC+ is.

I confess that I told a newbie he should take the lane, and he was run down by the first car that came by. Oops!

Diane, glad to hear it!!
Last night in the storm I rode the sidewalk across a drawbridge versus the wet metal deck grating.

This afternoon to get past a bus onloading a slew of passengers and resultant backup of cars I crossed a double yellow and rode in the opposing lane as traffic approached which I then split lanes with past the stopped bus.
I was splitting a lane with slow speed opposing traffic. the horrors.

Why do you inisist upon assuming that "those of us who do motor" have certain predictable opinions, as opposed to the supposed opinions of some arbitrarily selected group loosely labled the "more-carefree-than-you-or-me-crowd?"
You should get out more and make friends with people outside your opinionated comfort-zone. I daresay all of us would benefit from a little more of that.

What an idiot.
Where did he say he swerved into traffic? By keeping a level of situational awareness he knows when it is safe to swerve left if needed (specifically when there wouldn't be traffic there). This is smart.
I do the same thing, whether on a bike or in a car. It has gotten me out of plenty of close calls over the years.

yeah well, this "maneuver" is ill advised and it has killed cyclists...

I rode the street level route instead of the trail (40% longer) on a friday night.
