Just installed studded tires and more

My Nokian extreme 294 tires arrived today so after work I put them on and also added fenders. It took longer than expected as I did it out in my shed which didn't have the best lighting and there's no heat. I took the bike out for a quick spin at about 1am on ice and snow covered roads the temp was about 18 degrees. I live in upstate NY. I was very impressed with the tires and never came close to falling. I attempted to put on new pedals, but my wrench broke so I decided to wait until tomorrow to change them as it was late. I installed a PB superflash also. Anyway the Nokain tires are really impressive. I never used studded tires before so it's a cool new experience to me. I will take a few pics of my winter bike tomorrow and post them here.

Where abouts do you live? Upstate is pretty big.

I just mounted studded Nokian W106's on Monday. Took them out today for the first time on a 38 mile ride(SE Wisconsin) and I too was impressed. They handled quite well on very hard packed snow/ice and on black ice.

It isn't pretty, but there are a few pics. Not sure how well the fenders will do yet. I put on some crankbrother 50/50 pedals which seem to work pretty well with my winter boots. I don't have any front lights on in the pics, but rest assured I have plenty of lights and am still awaiting Betty's arrival. I snapped a few quick pics. I live near Lake George.

I put my W106s on today and went to a ride to the store. Of course, now that I got the tires, all of the ice is gone, but they're not too bad. I was worried there was going to be more rolling resistance than there was. Tires were actually pretty easy to put on, much less work than the kendas that came with my bike. Now, I'm just waiting for some ice and snow.

I commute down here in Albany (to Glenmont and back, every friggin day), and I roll the W106's. I'm very happy with them; they're actually too much on dry pavement days, and I worry I'll skitter off some cobbles someday in the morning and get hit by a bus. But anytime there's snow or ice I love 'em.
