Found this on Auntie Beeb's site:

(ignore guy with Grave's disease at the beginning…)

Sustrans (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_7120000/newsid_7126200?redirect=7126295.stm&news=1&nbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1&bbram=1&asb=1)

(Mods, feel free to move it if you think it's in the wrong place, or delete if it's a dupe)

Not a dupe. There is, indeed, a £50m 4-way competition between various projects, including a whole raft of Sustrans (sustainable transport charity) schemes for improving links between various dedicated cycle routes, including bridges, new linking sections, etc.

We are presently cross-emailing each other, urging everyone to vote. There are some on UK forums who believe that more Sustrans traffic-free routes will lead to us being banned from the roads. Me, I think they're great places to take beginners, esp. kids. We then start taking them on family rides and Youth Hostel weekends from as young as 8/9 years old (if they're strong enough).

On our last such weekend, 4 of them each covered about 140 miles on the Friday and Saturday, then rushed back to take two firsts and a second and a third in the regional Schools c-x champs on the Sunday. Am afraid that a certain degree of coaching smugness impossible to resist.
