Road Cycling - Oh yeah babe, the Victoire is on the way

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
 Well, for some odd reason, I felt the need to let everyone know that my bike search is officially over. I ended up buying a 2002 Lemond Victoire at a killer price. Now, all there is to do is to buy some pedals and shoes and I'm off to the roads! Does anyone have any suggestions on what pedals I should buy? I don't wanna drop a lot of coin for them but I also don't wanna sacrifice quality either. Wait a minute, is there such thing? Appreciate the help/suggestions and I look forward to some nutty discussions with all my fellow roadies! z
Congratulations, zeego! You have obtained a beauty of a bike. Don't forget to post some pictures, when it arrives.
Regarding pedals, I use Look PP357 and are very happy with them (got them relatively cheap, too). But there are alternatives. Others undoubtedly will fill you in.

I've ridden Looks for a while and love them. You can find last year's PP396's on sale for around $100 online.
I've heard a lot of good about Speedplay pedals, too, and might end up putting them on my bike in the spring to try something new.
Have fun!
Great bike Zeego! I was between the Victoire and the Trek 5200. Wound up going with the Trek just because it felt a little better for my body, but it was a tough decision. You're going to love that bike!
As for pedals, I went for the new Shimano Dura Ace 7750's and they are awesome! They are pricey though. You can get the Ultegras for cheaper (around $130). Here's the link for those:

Alright! Thanks for the input. Now the pedal search begins...

I like Speedplay's. They're easy to clip in and out. Provide a TON of float (I have bad knees). And they're light. I've got the X-2 series.

Look pedals have a nice large platform I like their design alot. There is quite a range of models for them and some are fairly inexpensive. I currently ride Campy pedals which are very similar to looks. I've heard some very good things about Time pedals also but have not tried them yet.
As for shoes be sure to check out Sidi's they are very comfortable, the higher end models get very expensive though.
I agree with Kev on the Sidi shoes. I picked up the Genius 4's and love them! Very comfortable and solid.

I got to ride a Victoire for a day a while back, you're going to love it. I've never been on such a nice riding bike.

Another vote for the Speedplay X-2's. I gotta add that they provide a large platform for your feet (because of the cleats).
Congrats on the Lemond. I have a Zurich and love the ride (and geometry)!!

LOOK PP357's and SIDI Genius 4's are a great combination!
I tried on some Specialized shoes today. The Pro Road shoe to be exact. They were really comfortable considering I have wide feet. And there only $150.
Another vote for Speedplays! I went with Speedplay X-3's a couple of weeks ago and I'm very happy. Haven't fallen or had any probs with them. Also very happy with my Sidi Titan shoes. In time I'll probably upgrade my X-3's to some Speedplay Zero's and put the X-3's on my other bike.
How are the Speedplay pedals on climbs and while out of the saddle? Do your feet fly over the place? Does it feel clumsy? I'm worried that constantly trying to find the center of gravity on these pedals could make your legs fatigue quicker as opposed to being in a more "locked in" position.`Seems like your cadence would be more efficient in a pedal without so much float.
From a Zurich rider, congrats on the Lemond Ti Victoire. Another vote for Speedplay X-2s and don't let the talk about "walking on ice" cloud your thinking - it's mostly BS by those who don't know or haven't tried Speedplays. If you notice anything different after the first mile I'd be suprised. It took me all of two blocks to get used to them. Absolutely NO problem out of the saddle and you can't pull out of them accidentaly. Also easy to clip out of and great platform due to the large cleat surface.
