I'm interested in comments, reviews, and beam shots of the Dinotte 200L with the WIDE beam.

I did my first night ride tonight with a standard-beam 200L on my helmet. I ride fairly technical singletrack (AFAIK), and I found it sufficient, but I could definitely see how an additional, bar-mounted light would be nice. So, if I get another 200L, should I get a wide or standard beam?

Thanks,
Brian

I'm in the same boat. I have one 200L that I have tried in both places along with my 6V 12W(Spot) & 20W(flood) halogens .I've tried a couple of configurations.

1: Dinotte Spot on Helmet, 20W flood on bars. The flood didn't seem to have enough throw but it did help in switchbacks. Ok but not the best.

2; Dinotte Spot on Helmet Alone. Great throw and I could comfortably ride at a medium pace. I did get a bit of a tunnel feeling when looking forward. Not as good as #1 but actually pretty close.

3: Dinotte Spot on Bars, 12W spot on helmet. Better than the above system although less wattage. By using both spots I could see far enough ahead to ride comfortably at fairly fast speeds.

4: Dinotte Spot on bars alone. Not enough side lighting, difficult to ride winding trails.

I would rate them from best to worst. 3,1,2,4. With 1&2 surprisingly close.

I'm going to try the 12W on the bars with the dinotte on the helmet next. But from the above conclusions I think I'll probably go with two 200L Spots. I emailed Rob and he suggested that the dual spot would be best but I could swap out if I didn't like the results. I'm hoping that Santa is good in the cash dept. Then I may just go with a dual on the bars and a single headlamp.

Thanks. That's good information. Have you seen any wide beam shots posted anywhere?

Lactic Acid Threshold has done some extensive testing and reviews of LED bicycle lighting, including the Dinotte 200L (not wide). However, has done the 600L wide.

I have 3 Dinotte 200L's. One has the wide beam lens that I use on the handlebars with one of the spot beams also.

The wide beam pattern is dimmer then the spot pattern without much increase in side spill. My impression is that it is similiar to the spot beam without the "hotspot" in the center. I have an extra spot lens and intend to switch back to it. I believe this is the reason that Dinotte "recommends" the standard (spot) lens.

I just added a second 200L to my wife's bars and it made a big difference. Both are spot lights but the 2 combined makes for a nice wide pattern. I have them spread as wide as possible without causing a hole in the middle of the beam pattern.
