General Cycling Discussion - Do shouters of "GET ON THE SIDEWALK!" know better?

It was a lovely bike ride home from my company's main office. A light fall rain and cool temperatures. But apparently I hadn't yet met my monthly quota of encountering young male drivers with small brains and even smaller penises. When I told him that his idea of my riding on the sidewalk was against the Illinois rules of the road, he acted like I was making up the concept called "rules of the road", and cursed a final profanity at me.

I can't decide on this one. The rules of the road in this area are pretty simple, so you don't exactly have to be Einstein to remember them. But in saying that, a lot of those people can't tell their arse from their elbow, and couldn't perform basic bodily functions without labels. :D

I couldn't choose, either. ;)

I had a thought today (wow, that's a step forward!) When people open their jaws and spew out junk in my direction, they are indicting themselves by their own words.

I rest my case.

On the ride to my job I ride on the streets, sidewalks, grass, and cut thru private properties. Not to save time but to save my life. I asked a cop last week if he would give me a ticket for riding on the sidewalk, and he said although it is illegal do it anyway if it's safer. PS On my commute home I was making a perfectly legal left hand turn when a cop car pulled out in front of me (he was doing a right turn on red, and should have yeilded. He probably didn't realize how fast I can go)

For real. Bikes may be slow compared to cars, but on the turns, cars are the sluggards.

VC, I have an idea. Why don't we just send these idiots into the war with the terrorists. That way, both groups might just wipe each other out and we could kill two birds with one stone!

Hahaha! very funny! However, maybe we shouldn't crack jokes about the situation over there in Afghanistan. We know many people could die over there (both good guys, bad guys, and innocent civilians), we shouldn't make fun of serious stuff like that =)

I seem to EXPLODE with vile and nasty expletives when some tosser shouts at me to get off the road. I can't help it. My foul-mouthed language also attracts the attention of everyone within a 100 metre radius as well.

I'll tell you what though, it may be just as bad, but it sure makes me feel better.:) Thinking about it now makes my blood boil. What possible right do these maggot-penis idiots have, to tell me to get off the road? - None.:irritated We have been down this road before.

hey guys three years ago i was training in feb, and a boy in a new dodge pickup almost hit me as he went by. i flipped him off. he went to a stop sign did a burn out and pulled into a drive way. got him i raced to where he was parked i want to get in his face and let him know what a idot he was was, well the short of the story he ran me over in someones yard i i do not confront anyone anymore no way no how. i did not like looking at his oil pan, radator ect while it was still running, i went to hospital and he got away. i know how ya'll feel. but do a hard sprint rather than fuss at the pea brain people. imho...jammer

I also treat them with the contempt they deserve, it's usually safer, but not always (as I found out yesterday).

That's known as attempted vehicular homicide, about the same grade as assault with intent to kill (plus the usage of a deadly weapon); that's just shy of third-degree murder, as I recall (correct me if I'm wrong, IANAL). Doesn't matter if you insulted his manhood, his religion, his mother and his dog; he would serve about five years in prison for that one. I sincerely doubt that the cops would just shrug something like that off, and I know that an ambulance-chaser certainly wouldn't. Dickless there would not only be rather poor (after paying your medical bills, lost wages, etc.), but likely would discover what the sexual preference of the incarcerated male is. If he was under-age, his license would go bye-bye until he was 21, he might get to spend some time with the youth authority, and his nice truck would spend quite a bit of time at the police impound.





Personally, I would have used the Emergency Mind Expansion Tool (otherwise known as a H&K .45ACP pistol); I can be a stubborn pig-headed bastard when people attempt to kill me, and I'd say that someone trying to run you down with a two-ton pickup truck would count as a life-threatening situation.
