Foo - I hate furnace repairmen

First it takes him three days to fix my furnace. 469 dollars out the door when he finally fixes it, it dies and there is no way in hell I can take the day off work tomorrow, or get someone to watch my house on such short notice.

But wait - did you get the ultimate furnace-guy FU?

Did he wear the official booties on his lower appendages so as to not track snow in, track yuckies up from the basement, etc?


It tis a truly extra special specimen of any repair service who DOES not wear these little tidy garments in this weather - have come home to be REALLY <GRIG SMILE HERE> HAPPY MY WHATEVER IS FIXED - but to have dam slobbo footprints with an amazing mud sole print in and out, and in and out and wth - so many times in that you couldn't even see the tread imprint anymore - the carpet was now the color of outside ...

...living in a similar latitude, I I know this is NOT the best time to be without heat.

This time of year is putting a strain on a lot of furnaces. This is the time of year furnaces crap out. Repairman are busy. Call around to many HVAC companies and see who can come out right away. Your going to have to stick with the the guy that came over unless you want to eat $469. Sucks but life is tough and expensive.

Did you ask friends and co-workers for a recommendation beforehand? They might have been able to steer you to a good one. Mine would show up on Christmas Eve if I needed him and never charges me what he's worth. I have a great plumber, too.

I always wear my blue booties when going into customers homes. Thats ignorant of a service tech to not do so. I don't wear shoes in my house, so why should I wear my shoes into another persons house? Its a matter of respect and having the step up on other companies who don't do so.

No service agreement?

I turned on my A/C last night.

I had to take yesterday off to drive 80 miles to replace a gas water heater in my sons condo near D.C. because the friggin' plumber that Lowe's contracted to do it showed up a few weeks ago and took a look at where it was installed and said "no way....you need to give me more room than that!" ..then he left...

That was almost 3 weeks ago.....my son called Whirlpool, Lowe's , and several local plbg contractors and he couldn't get ANYBODY to come....Whirlpool sent him the parts direct, but nobody would do it for him....

...so, my son and d-i-L have been goint to the local health spa and working out and then using their facilities for almost 3 weeks....

Good thing I'm in that line of business.....Him and I removed the old heater and installed the new one in about an hour.....and it hasn't blown up yet!

....Seems that nobody wants to do any real, physical labor anymore.....

It was a warranty job, as well!

I remember the days of furnaces.
