Wow, A friend of mine was in a Cannondale shop in KC. They had one of these that was about the same price as the Cannondal hardtail he was looking at. He asked if I had an opinion, I really didn't know anything about it. I told him I would see what the Forum thought about it. It seems as though everyone is as indifferent about it as I was. Probably not a good sign!

I've never been one, but it looks nice. I read somewere (wiki I think) that GT is now owned by the same company that owns the Schwinn name, if that means anything....

GT is owned by Pacific Bicycle Co,Yes the same people that bring you 3 or 4 brands of Wal-Mart Schwag....But...Pacific makes a couple of levels of bikes,a lower end (And I mean LOWER END) for The Schwag-Mart/K-Mart/Target stores and a line for your LBS "Local Bike Shop"(Generally MUCH better quality!!) This is a LBS Bike. Worth looking at

Bump.

I'm considering this one. Seems like a a good deal, spec wise, but from everything I've gathered online nobody on earth has ever ridden one :(

It's a $300 bike. It's got wheels and pedals. Enjoy it now and replace it after a couple of years.

The marathon 9R is not a $300 bike. That link above is not the right one.

What's keeping me from ordering one is not hearing from anyone if GT has the 29er geometry down well. It's a good deal on paper but if it handles like a turd I don't want it.

OK here's an update. The friend that rode it and liked it says it rides and feels like the GF Hi Fi 29er. He has test ridden both on the trails and says they feel very similar. The HI FI Pro is already sold out for 2008
so his decision might be made.

Here's a quick review of the bike, towards the bottom of the page.

Dang.

Not too good.

I'd be okay with the rear travel problems as I believe I'd prefer a stiff setup with the shock anyways, but I don't want to need to replace the fork. And what would I replace it with? The Reba is one of the standards for 29ers.

Oh well, probably a cannondale for me.
