Foo - Damn, moving sucks!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I like the adventure of getting to live in a new place every few years, but each time, the move gets a little more sucky.
The packers were here Monday and Tuesday and yesterday the truck came and, after 12 hours (!!), rolled away with all our stuff except what I'm hauling in the trailer. Now we have to clean the house, check out, load the trailer and hit the road.
Then reverse the process once we find a place to live in CO Springs.
As of tomorrow, I'm officially homeless....
Congrats on the adventure.
I too truly dislike moving. Just not being able to access your possessions is very disconcerting. That and the mess. I like everything to be in it's place. We are doing some remodeling right now, and I am so tired of things not being where they belong.
Godspeed on your trip.

I also hate moving! It seems every time we do, we have more stuff!

I hear ya. At one point I meoved 13 times in 10 years. Have now been in my house for 3.5 years. Longest I have lived anywhere since I moved out of my parents house 13 years ago. It's a pain, but a fun adventure too. I, too, am now remodeling and having to rearrange things. Good motivation to get rid of the things I haven't touched in the 3.5 years in this house. I have given alot of things to my family and to the trash men in the last week. Can't wait for this renovation to be done....but the new game room with be well worth it in the long run. Can't wait for the first game of pool.
Aren't you blessed!?! You get to hang lights on two houses. <snicker>

You know, at this point, sitting here in my empty house in my camping chairs, with borrowed lights, I just might! At least then I'd know I'd probably be on the flight schedule in the morning! And not have to worry about getting breakfast with no kitchen stuff.
Father was Air Force, now retired. We moved about every three years or so too. Have a safe trip.
ARRGH!!! What did you say? Huh, didn't hear you!!!
Did you say that dreaded, bad awful - put a pout on my face that my mother would say "it'll last forever" ...
... Move?
Ugh. Due to my lovely other siblings who pressured the other person who owned my house besides me - (enter, Mom), we spent the last few years just updating and keeping on top of things - the double we owned. And then for some reason - the freaking ball was dropped mid Summer (thank you again Siblings, grrrr) and without really checking the market for other houses/neighborhoods out there - the house was put on the market - at a higher $$ (ahh, someone listened to me ... personally I didn't want to sell it for a couple more years) - and, dam it - someone bought it in three days. :( Evidently the doubles around me are crud (we were owner occupied for over 20 years) - and a guy wanted it to put a mother and mother in law. Nice. And he have us a nice $$ amt so we would get out in a month.
Problem. No where to go. Now we discover - nothing on the mkt we really want (spent a couple of months of weekends in stupid searches), and the taxes are going up around us like wildfire. Ick.
So hold off looking more till Spring.
But until then. What an awful month of September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 24 ish years of stuff - and having a full size attic (you could play basketball in there!) full of stuff (mostly pack rat Mom's) - and still finding there was stuff there from ex-husband's too - ---- awful, icky - hate moving, hate packing - loved throwing stuff out though and giving to Salvation Army! I deleted a lot of needless stuff. This was the ONLY good thing to come of this fiasco. Mom's crap however - ugh.
Anyway - my, our stuff - is now in storage on the 5th floor of a warehouse in a part of the city that I wouldn't EVER ride my bike down the street at night in. ugh. And we're all living wherever ---- and just think.
We have to move the stuff again --- we have a storage unit of 10'X30' and it's packed full right to the door and we also have another unit as well (smaller).
I .... really ... just can't wait ....
:(
Moving sucks. It just does. Not just getting stuff packed, but trying to stuff it in a vehicle or trailer, move it to the destination without too much stuff getting broken or damaged, then perhaps unpack it, all without tearing up one's back.
Some helps with moving are to have a heavy duty cart (one that can carry 250-300 pounds), a hand truck capable of moving a fridge or other large object, and lots of hand wipes.
I've also found that some U-Haul vehicles are better than others. The one based on the old Toyota frame is really easy for small loads as opposed to hoisting stuff 4-5 feet to fit in a larger van.
