Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, so last friday I woke up with a nasty chest cold. You know, sore throat, coughing up that lovely stuff, and generally feeling pretty crummy. So I have been off the bike for a week now. Actually my body feels pretty good. However Im still hacking and a hueing. Im hoping to be able to ride by the weekend, but I dont want to come back too soon and make things worse. Good time to begin doing some base miles I guess.
Since I havent been able to ride, I spent my time bike shopping.:eek:Since my Look that I built up in Sept is just a tad too small I wanted something that fit right. I finally got to the point where I didnt care about brand name and went for what fit the best. So my new ride will be in early next week, and the Look will be disassembled and sold. So here is what I ordered, got $500 off retail to boot. This is gonna be my race bike.

Very nice! Hope you feel better soon. I had it at Thanksgiving. Had to take the week off. Then started back slow. Now feel pretty good.

bacterial meningitis and a narly sinus infection. I really need to not live on a college campus. Guess I needed the rest though. Wish I could have that bike, though it would make me even angrier about not being able to ride

Yeah, take good care of that problem and don't aggrevate the situation. I've had a sore throat on and off now for about a week so I'm avoiding riding outside right now (but I'm riding an hour every day on the inddor trainer). Last year I missed 2-1/2 months and all that time off spoiled my season. It started with the flu... which somehow turned into strep throat, then tonsilitis, then pneumonia... then to top it all off a massive ear infection (I couldn't hear out of my left ear for nearly 2 months after that).
I'm really paranoid about getting sick again this year after spending alot of time on what came very close to being my death bed.
Besides that, a week or two completely off the bike won't completely kill you, especially if you ride alot of miles. Sometimes you come back feeling even better/stronger/faster after a short layoff.

Good advice. I will most likely just start back on the trainer in the house this weekend. Its a bit wet and chilly around here this week so Ill stay out of it. Just do some easy pedaling for an hour at a time. I actually feel better in the legs then I have in a while. Perhaps some time off the bike is just what I needed.
The new bike wont be here till next week so right now its pretty easy to deal with.;)
