Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Clydesdale Poster of the Year Award.......Certificates posted! :D

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Time to nominate your Votes for the Clyde/Athena Poster of the Year Award. I'll create a certificate for the winner. By the way, what I'm asking is that you choose one of your own to be honored. (Yes, I'm a Clyde as well, but need to recuse myself since I'm one of those evil moderators ;) ) It's not a contest, just a way for us to give Kudos to one of the group.
Requirements: A Submission of nomination and the Clyde/Athena Forum will come to a consensus. I'll make the certificate for whoever y'all decide :D. If you wear a Blue Star, you ain't eligible, so don't submit a moderator. ;)

When we get some submissions, I'll set up a poll to take votes. We can have up to 10 options. I'm going to let this thread cook for a week.

I'm going to sneak in here and ask if I can nominate someone? And am I limited to just nominating one person? You know, there's so many great people who frequent this forum it's going to be hard to limit myself to just one choice...

Post it, that way there's transparency.
East Hill, you can nominate someone, you're a member of this Subforum Community, no problem :D
I'll let every one have a prime and an alternate. Remember, maximum of 10 candidates though total.

I will have to think hard about this, because I have a few that I think are good, but it is probably more about their changes and maybe not about how well they have posted to help others.

Their own changes, and/or how they helped others. Either way is perfectly valid, because shared success is a great motivator as well as support and encouragement. Success shows a doubter that they can do it too.:D

All right, here goes:
Air
The Historian
As I said, there are dozens of people here who could get nominated, but Tom's restricting us to just two.

I second the nomination of...
Air !
He's always there for us and really produces! :)
You know, for what he has done and the time he spends on here, you might even consider raising his status...

I would have to say Air and 51...

My votes:
The Historian - For not only learning to ride a bicycle this year, but also the sheer amount miles he put in since learning to do so. He's also a good conversationalist if you give him a chance.
BeckyW - For her unshakably good spirit and encouragement to all. My hats off to her even if I haven't saw a post from her in quite some time.

I say bcart1991.
He takes great pride in being a Clyde, gives advice that is second to none in all areas, and he's a darn nice guy to boot. Granted, he's kinda new, maybe he deserves a ROY award?

Tom didn't say we couldn't nominate ourselves, did he? The problem with being a rookie is the lack of name recognition...but bcart1991 does seem to be a nice guy, and obviously has quite a sense of humour.
:roflmao:
Perhaps he should also have a Rookie of the Year...

BeckyW - Great spirit and an inspiration.
Air - Always helpful, often spewing nothing but compiled information threads, doing lots of work to keep sticky post information up to date, etc...
Air and KT.
Air may as well be called, "Mr. Sticky." He provides a wealth of information.
When I first considered this whole bike thing two years ago (back when us "waif-challenged" folk had no Clyde forum) KT helped answer some questions and gave me confidence to buy my Trek and get going. 7500 miles later I still curse his name ;)
*jaxgtr has been a good friend, but he donned a blue star not too long ago, so he is ineleigible.
Thanks to those who mentioned me. I'm honored!

Two very encorouging and helpful souls!
I know one of mine has not posted in a while, but my votes:
Air and BDinger
Thanks for the votes guys! If elected I promise to live up to my 'Mr. Sticky' legend and continue to spew forth across these great pages as much as possible. Uhm...or something.
For raw grittiness and perseverance along with no-nonsense look at health I admire Historian.
For laughing in the face of obstacles - BeckyW.

My choices:
Becky W, simply because she's far more brave than I am. I didn't ride until I was well under 300 pounds. Also, as an obese man society looks at me differently than they do an obese woman. Men often get a pass; women get ridiculed.
For my other choice, it was a toss-up between my NOWBTT riding partner and the amazing Joe Metal, but Neil Fein wins out in the end. I first rode with Neil in Philadelphia in June. He had trouble with the false flats of the West River Drive; I recall his complaining about the slightest inclines. Now he powers up them. He'd never ridden more than 25 miles in a day; we've now completed a metric century together, and go on overnight tours. His enthusiasm for cycling is infectious, and while are personalities are a study in contrasts, we generally get along, aside from the occasional squabble. (Hey, I still give him a hard time about leading me and my bike into a salt marsh.) His friendship is one of the greatest blessings cycling has given me.

Thank you, Air. You are very kind. But simply to set the record straight, my posting name is "The Historian." It's an important article, that "The", and I use it because it, like greatness to other men, was thrust upon me. The following quotations are from the Usenet group rec.games.chess.politics:
"The issue is whether any fair reading of what I have written would lead anyone
to assume that "The Historian" is anything more than a withering or, if you
will, heavy-handed ironical device. The clear meaning of what I wrote is that
The Historian came to this forum as a prancing nit."
"Readers will judge for themselves whether my point was exceedingly obvious and
not misleading in the least: namely, The Historian appeared here as a pompous
nit."
"The truth is that The Historian did characterize himself ever so tellingly as The Historian thanks to his Colonel Blimp vanity."
"I warrant that most readers ... understand that the epithet is a piece of withering or, if you must, heavyhanded irony directed at a pompous nit. Readers either understand that my phrase, "The Historian," was open ridicule of its object -- or they do not."
"Everyone on this forum -- most of all ... The Historian -- understands
that the capitalized article, "The," is a way to drive home the point that The
Historian is a pompous, semi-lettered nit."
"Readers are aware that I have titled one rgcp participant, "The Historian," because
he appeared here signing himself as the historian of the Pennsylvania State Chess
Federation in an exercise of absurd pomposity. My point is that the phrase, "The
Historian," is a way of pigeon-holing a prancing nit."
There's more, but I've brought enough nits into this post. :-)
Point noted! Ya know I thought I put the The in there, damn slow fingers...

Sorry, I couldn't resist reprinting the garland of praise that I've gathered from the chess groups over the years.

Congrats! Sorry I am a bit late, but end of semester projects took away my social life for a few weeks there :)
Wow thank you... I'm touched, though I feel it's undeserved since I haven't been around much lately, or even been cycling much lately! I haven't disappeared, though - I'll be back as soon as the weather warms up and all my instincts stop telling me to hibernate. Just trying to maintain or keep losing slowly, for now.
FWIW, I think East Hill or Solveg is much more deserving of this award! :) They're both dedicated cyclists, and strong women with good hearts.

Thank you for the compliment! However, (and I think Solveg would agree) you are a great example of someone who decides that they are going to take charge of their life and improve it. I like to encourage people, but you are a motivator :D .
We know you will be back as soon as you thaw out :p .

+1. I think he would probably win without a contest though, not to kiss butt, butt I'm sure Tom's motivated everyone here as he has me.

I'm sure there are dozens of Clydes who are better cyclists than I. Practically any Tom, Dick, or Clyde would be a better fit for the runner up award. Still, I had to have done something to deserve the nomination, let alone the award. I'm not entirely sure what it was I did, but the voters seemed to like it, and I defer to their judgment. So I'm simply saying "Thank you," and I will keep 'do, do, doing what I done, done, done before.' I encourage you to do likewise. And not just because I nominated you.
