I know Pashleys are rare, expensive, and quite scarce here in the US. Strangely enough one showed up for sale the next town over from me. I had to have it. She is an industrial wonder, weighs about as much as my car but beautiful in her own right. This is as it came home, no cleaning as of yet.

That is similar to the "Low Gravity" bikes by Raleigh and Worksman or the "Cycle Truck" by Schwinn- appears that front tire is same as rear, and that's the main difference.

I had never heard of them either till I found this. Pashley is Englands oldest hand built bicycle company. Founded in 1920. I definately got this used.. these sell in Britain for around $1000 Pounds which at the the exchange rate puts them out of my tax bracket. Good luck finding one. They are imported into the US but I can't find much info on them over here.

Is it possible that it was USED by Harrods for local deliveries instead of sold by Harrods. Either is possible , of course. There's probably no way to every know unless someone in England can verify if Harrods every used bike delivery.

Good God. $250 for a kit to build a bike that costs around $50 in India? Not for me. I am asTONished by the money people are charging for Indian built bikes. Someone is making a killing. I passed on a vintage one of these at around £50 on eBay...

Based on condition I can not picture this bike ever having been used commercially. While I don't think it's worth the exorbitant price tag new I can guarantee it is a far superior bike to the $250 India bike in terms of Quality. For one is has Sachs Hubs the rear being a 3-spd Torpedo. Alloy wheels in 26 x 1.75 as opposed to the French sized rear wheel on the Ebay bike. The Ebay bike is a single speed.. nothing wrong with that but given the weight of these bikes I want some options in gearing. Well look at me I sound just like a proper bike snob... cheap bike bashing and all. What an ***** I am. Given the price of a vintage cycle truck or the exorbitant price of a Pashley and the fact that you would likely tear apart a used bike and go through it anyway I would not discourage getting the Indian bike if that's what you can find. $20 worth of rattle can paint, a $119 Wal-Mart Next Cruiser (or used bike)with the 26" rear wheel with Shimano Nexxus 3-spd hub already on it and you could have a pretty nice Utility and a great winter project.

There was a bike very like this on an episode of MIDSOMER MURDERS.

The Indian bike at $250 is overpriced perhaps, but it was also listed cheaper on Ebay.

I think the good-condition bikes like this that I have seen all went for hundreds of dollars. There have been a couple of Cycle Trucks that went for less, but they were minus the basket as I recall.

I don't know who originated the design. But I think the Indian bike is just the Raleigh Low Gravity bike, and the bike pictured above may be based on it as well.
