SORRY EAST HILL, NO PICTURES...now that that is out of the way...
Soooo...I stopped in this little bike shop I hadn't seen before, a little place off the beaten path and they had at least a half dozen of so vintage lightweights as well as a boatload of old bmx stuff and some old Schwinn cruiser that appeared to be nicely restored. Two bikes stood out to me, these two Raleighs. Actually I'm pretty sure what models they were since the decals were still on the bikes but I'd like a little more info about them like what year they might be and maybe how much to offer the guy if I should decide to.
Bike #1: Raleigh Professional - white with Carlton decal on the seat tube, full Reynolds 531 frame/fork, full Campagnolo Nuovo Record, pre-CPSC no lip FD, no date code on the RD, just "PATENT" except for Dia-Compe brake levers, honey Brooks Professional, high flange Record hubs, looked like maybe Campy 1010 long slot dropouts or similar, Rigida clincher rims about 20mm wide (dangit, didn't notice if they were 700C or 27"). Oddities were braze on cable guides on the top tube (I would have expected clamps), braze on cable stops for the Suntour barcons it was sporting (again I would have expected a clamp), SR handlebar and stem, and an oval headbadge with the bird instead of just the bird itself. Excellent condition, needed cleaning and polishing but no rust, dents, or scratches that I noticed.
Bike #2: Raleigh "Campagnolo Grand Sport" - sort of faded gold color, full Reynolds 531 frame/fork, Campagnolo Super Record, post CPSC FD with lip except for crank which was either Athena or early Chorus and brake levers whcih I don't recall what they were, Turbo saddle, low flange Record hubs, Gipiemme medium slot dropouts, MAVIC MA40 rims, very good condition, again needed cleaning and polishing but no rust, had a small dent on the top tube and scratches on the crank that could probably be polished out.
I rather liked the Professional. If that's not enough to make to get a good idea what these are I can probably go back and take pictures tomorrow.
