Wow, move on dude. 8-tracked sucked then, which is why it quickly moved to cassettes.

Heh. I have a nice collection, though not an active one. Rather, it's one that kinda came with the merged territory. :p

Nonetheless, there's a nice tree full of 8-tracks, all of which will eventually make it to the digital realm, complete with hisses and track jumps, as I'm used to hearin' such when I play them. :)

I used to have a small collection (formerly my mother's collection). I think my brother is in possession of them now.

Eagle Kammback

exactly why I collect them, they will be valuable. Plus, with an 8-Track player, you can play anything, just get an 8-Track to cassette converter and a cassteet to headphone jack converter

OK, you like the AMC Eagle and have 8-tracks. It all coming through clear now. :p

Actually, that is my excuse for people who don't understand it. I use my 8-Tracks every single day! I like things the way they used to be, I also collect record and occasionally cassettes

Vinyl I can see. Vinyl is good stuff.

All eight track had going for it was the funky space-helmet-shaped players. :)

I've been looking for a portable one for years, but I can never find any good ones I can afford

Um. What that? Never saw anything but a car 8-track or a console 8-track. <curious Vega look>

I still has me lots of vinyl, some of which is not available on cassette or CD. I'm also gonna transfer this to digital format, complete with vinyl hisses and pops with which I'm familiar for each album. :)

I just remember listening to The first Boston 8 track, lol. I think I had some KISS too. Even Billy Joel. I also remember having to shove a matchbook or other similar sized objects under the tape to make it play correctly. Yep, they sucked then, and still do.,,,,BD

Bonus points if any of you had a Sears solid state stereo. 8 track, cassette, receiver, and turntable, all in one.:D :D :D :D

VegaVixen
12-07-07, 08:57 PM
No, BD. Panasonic ss stereo receiver, 8-track, and tt, with a Sony cassette-tape deck. :D

Edit: bonus points if you still have it and it works. :D

My tt's belt needs replacing, and my Sony deck plays only forward (and recording to it is pointless). But the stereo receiver and 8-track still work just fine. :)

In the heyday of boom boxes, some got pretty downright amazing with what they featured. I remember one that sported the usual dual cassette and AM/FM radio... but a fold out turntable that could play full size records, and an 8 track recorder.

Maybe some company could get rich by making a retro looking boom box, boxy silver lines and all, keep the dual cassette decks and CD player, but build in an 80GB hard disk (and a reasonable DAC that can do the usual formats, MP3, WAV, AAC, WMA), syncing/streaming via 802.11, Bluetooth, and USB, and add in an XM satellite radio module.

Wow, move on dude. 8-tracked sucked then, which is why it quickly moved to cassettes.

Is this true? I thought 8 track was a big failed marketing gimmick to replace cassettes. You couldn't record to 8tracks, and that's why the record industry wanted people to use them. Cassettes were kind of the Napster of the day, and 8 tracks were kinda like the failed attempt to introduce CD's which couldn't be copied. To copy an 8 track you had to buy an even more expensive setup which also had a cassette player.

8 tracks were a huge step backward not only in sound quality, but because they f'n interupted SONGS in the middle to jump to the next "track."

Collecting them is like collecting pogo sticks. I like it.

Auto Column. Bench seat, special order (I have the build sheet) by the original owner (a grandma). I know auto column bench is not very coveted but it is supposed to be rare. Not bad for 11k.

I think I owned one 8-track back in the 70's. It was something about "fonzie's greatest hits". Left a bad taste. Stayed with my old faithful - vinyl. BTW, how much degradation does the tape see after 30
+ years?
