Advocacy & Safety - Dedicated transportational cyclist.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

...or dedicated recreational cyclist?

The door zone is out of the question due to plowed snow but he is obviously in grave, grave danger since he is not using a mirror and cannot control the motorist behind him such that the motorist merges left and does not attempt to share this dangerous lane with him.

Oh the humanity!

Maybe his panache will save him. Or some violent zig zags to scare the motorist into thinking that he's a lunatic on a bike.

I reckon he's a Utahn.

I reckon someone didn't click on the URL, unless the Zion curtain has expanded and engulfed Aspen.

I could assume your intolerance, and ask where in the caption it states that he's a Colorado native. He could just as likely be Australian.

Your assumption that someone riding in those conditions is a Utah native is untenable.

I didn't assume, I reckoned. That alone should have indicated a bit of sarcasm. Or not.

Wow Pete, you're amazing. Click here (http://www.cyclingforums.com/) to claim your prize.

Nope, not amazing at all.

Where does that leave you?

With a nearly completed bike. I expect plenty of snow tomorrow as well.

Then you need to hurry up and mount the skids and go riding. (http://www.snowbike.ch/speed_snow_bike/Bilder/_speed_ski-bob_rbo-skibob-position.jpg)

Thank you. Now I know what Darth Vader does on holiday.

You, Mr. Fagerlin, have asked me a considerable number of times why I think you're a cyclist-inferiority advocate. I never got around to doing the at least one mouse-click that it would have taken to dig up an example to cite; I usually wait for such things to come to me. And this "grave danger" comment of yours is certainly one such example.

I don't see anything significantly, let alone "gravely", dangerous about the situation that the cyclist in the photo is in. My Triad used to "strongly recommend" a mirror until I found out that I don't have consensus in the VC community about that, the low-light situation looks to be on the borderline of where he might want to use a headlight, and he might want to turn his poles a little so as to make his profile at least as narrow as mine was when I once carried snowshoes; that is all.

And I've found that the best kind of headlight for Yukon winter cycling is a Coleman lantern; it doubles as an always-handy hand warmer.

Wow. Lazy

No; just cognizant of the fact that Mr. Fagerlin in particular, who does his ad hominem attacks on me in a more childish manner than anyone else on BF, is a no-account and therefore isn't worth the time that it would take me to do that extra mouse click for his benefit, at least not until a month of my choosing.

Are you Mr. Fagerlin's mother?

He appears to be riding too close to the snow-bank zone. He's got a good steely eyed gaze going though so he'll probably be ok.

Wait a second! Is he pedalling in ski boots? That's awesome :) (If I had clicked the link I'd have known that before I posted the first bit)

Fun and hilarity aside.....That looks like some of the conditions I
commuted in in Vermont for the past two winters !

Strangely enuff, drivers were especially friendly and accommodating in
these conditions....gave me lots of room, never buzzed me, etc...
Guess they felt sorry for the bum/dui convict

I do believe we got a foot of snow today - in under 4 hours.

No, he's doing what he wants to be doing, completely oblivious to BF experts who would find fault no matter what.

Let the guy ride his bike!

I'm with Brian here... I thought the sarcasm was pretty obvious....

Then again, the hardcore VC crowd never realizes how dumb they sound, so why would they recognize someone lampooning them?

Mr. Fagerlin's mother? You're funny. Strange. But funny.

Looking at that guy the old scandanavian saying makes sense:

"There's no bad weather. Only bad clothing."

If it were me I would put the pointed ends of the ski poles facing into traffic. I think that would do wonders for my panache.

WHHOOOOOSSSSSSSHHH!!

Quick!

Duck!

Something just flew over your head!

"You don't have the consistency that it takes."
- Dick Cheney, creaming his opponent whom Mr. Fagerlin would probably get along good with, in the 2004 debates.

And you, Mr. Fagerlin, don't have the consistency that it takes to be worthy of study by my non-partisan cycling think tank. Have a nice life.

I gotta say that I find it difficult to accept that someone could have missed the sarcasm in Pete's post. I quite certain he didn't even intend for it to be taken literally by anyone.

But why is Pete probably unable to respond?

Well, weren't the first clipless pedals made by ski binding companies? Perhaps he always rides in ski boots because they are just his regular cycling shoes. :D
