 Went on my first Metric century yesterday. Started early. About mile 10 I was going down a long valley with a creek that had some extreme flood damage. I was coming up on a County Maintainence work crew of 3 younger guys (mid-20's) standing , drinking coffee, when a dog comes from the group (can't imagine it being their dog) that does his thing barking and nipping at my feet. Just as I get beside the work crew, with the dog nipping on my right foot, one of the guys hollers to the dog "Sic'em". Welllll, I left about 2 20 foot skid marks on the road from hitting the brakes and Wow! was I PO'ed! I stared at the offender for about 5 seconds, and said "It sure takes a big man to do that doesn't it" other guys laughed, so I turned to them and said "You guys think that's *&*& funny?", silence for about 5 seconds, and I said again to the offender looking him in the eye "You must really be proud of yourself. That was pure stupidity!" . I stared again at them for another 5 seconds - all of them open jawed and silent, then got back on the bike and left (must admit with a few strong cuss works directed towards the offender) - About 200 yards down the road I saw a truck with an older worker in it - (about my age - 56). I stopped, asked him if he was the supervisor, he said no, Bobby from the workcrew was the foreman (not the offender). I explained what happen, that I was barely maintaining self control but tell Mr "Bobby the foreman" that I was going to call the maintainence department, talk to the main supervisor and INSIST in understanding what "Mr Bobby the Foreman did to insure this would not happen again". About 500 yards down the road, I suddenly started laughing as I realized that when I stopped, I never did see the dog. I take it he bailed. BTW- 63 miles, avg=14 mph, top speed = 44 mph (some mighty big hills). An EXCELLENT day!!!
