I just bought some beautiful 180mm TA cranks (im tall) they will be used with a triple chain-ring with the rear spacing being 126mm. I'm just not exactly sure of the taper since they are French threaded for the pedals I didn't know if that changed anything. I do not want to mess these up by experimenting... I am hoping they will last me a very long time.

I don't mind weather its sealed cartridge or not..... but what kind of decent bottom bracket should I be looking for? (that is not too expensive) and what width?

The frame is English threaded..

If memory serves me correctly, the crank spindle is ISO tapered - at least, it's NOT the taper used by Shimano, Sugino, and all the later mainstream stuff. Best shot is to look for either a TA or Stronglight (the taper is interchangable) spindle.

Finding said spindles or bottom brackets isn't all that hard, as I've noticed a fair selection on eBay in the last few months. You'll just need a bit of patience.

Actually, early 1970s Sugino cranks used a European end width (the taper is always 2 degrees), rather than the wider Shimano size. Campagnolo changed over to the old Shimano size in the early 1990s.

SD, depending on how old the crankset is, you should check the pedal threads in the crankarms. French bikes of the early 70's used smaller pedal threads than everybody else. They're not hard to correct, just use the proper thread size to retap them, but if your pedals don"t fit, that"s why.

That's a newer TA BB on ebay which could very well use JIS taper, which TA also uses currently. I have no idea what year TA would have changed but I assume all Pro-5-vis crank arms are ISO. Did you score those off ebay? 180mm are hard to come by even 175s... though I have a set of those.
