I got to walk like a mile in the freezing cold (in the 20s) to change a tire on a car that doesn't belong to me at like midnight.

makes me glad I don't own a car changing tires is a pain in the rear on them

I do not miss changing out car tires. The worst part, for me, is you have to deal with it immediately. You can't just abandon a car someplace. A bike?-- at WORST you walk it home.

thank you, but as much as id like to leave you with that impression its not as noble as it seems im dating the girl the car belongs to and I got plenty repayment once we both warmed back up

I read the whole thread, so I won't call you a fool. But a smart car owner would have someone like AAA come out and change it for them. You don't even own a car, and you got suckered into changing a flat.

hmmm, she got it changed for free, probably much faster than AAA would do it... and they both shared a reward for all their hard work afterwards.

I'm curious if a bicycle patch kit would even work at 20 degrees- never tried it, but suspect the solvents might not cooperate as well when cold.

If you're familiar with the car, you can take care of a flat on it about as quick or quicker than anyone on a bicycle.

actually triple a doesn't service this area. and to her credit she tried to change the tire herself she just couldn't loosen the bolts. im 6 foot 6 and 240 some pounds athletic and they were still a pain to get losened almost knocked the car off the jack pushing it forward they were on so tight/frozen. so she tried to do it herself.

Well, you can mess around doing a patch job in the cold if you want. I just put a new tube on, four minutes and I'm back on my way. A hell of a lot easier than changing a car tire too, IMO.

It would have been easier, and safer, if you had loosened the lug nuts while the tire was still on the ground, then jacked up the car for full removal.

Sometimes the grease monkey with the air wrench thinks he's being funny. Might want to check lug nuts on the other three wheels. They don't have to be so tight she can't get them off by herself. In fact, might be a good idea to loosen them for her, then let her tighten them. In a star pattern of course. And periodically slap the lug wrench on them to check for tightness.

Yeah, I used to be a grease monkey...a long time ago. Now I have a very good one as a close friend. Saves me a lot of money and headaches.

lol i havent had a car in like a year so changing tires isnt really my are of exspertise

i never fit in with my family cause my half brother and stepdad were grease monkeys but i was more into art

acctually in the town i live in 5 miles will take you well across town in any direction so if i got a flat on my bike id just carry it to where i was going then fix it in the warmth of my home or tattoo shop

Sounds about like my town:D I always carry a spare tube for whatever bike I am riding but would do the same if I were in town.

Yeah, in the cold and dark I'd rather change a car tire than fix a bike flat. Less fuss, and you can keep your mitts on.

You guys are crazy! Fixing a bike tire is 100 times easier than a car tire. Four minutes, tops, for the bike tire. No jack or finding where to put the jack, No worries about another car hitting you, no ruining your clothes crawling around on the pavement, no stuck lugnuts that were put on with an air wrench.....Quick release!!!
