Well my LBS (Team Schwinn) right up the street has closed and merged with their other location and is now way far away. :irritated THis shop was convienent to go to. just hop on the bike and ride up. Now it is not that easy. This place has been in this location for about 20 years. They sold all types of bikes, Trek, Raleigh and of course Schwinn. Bought all my bikes there and had all my work done there. Sad day for me.

Sorry to hear the news. :thumbdn:

I guess I'm the odd one in the group. There are 3 bike shops I frequent, but none is close. One is 5 miles, one is 9 miles, and one is 18 miles from home. I'm not partial to any one of them.
I also shop REI and online (Performance, Nashbar, STP, etc.).

By the way, I'm sorry too, Ridealot. :( Bummer! Well, maybe it'll be worth the trip once you get used to the other shop. ;)

Where I live, I have my pick of many shops. One is in the "nose-ring-dragon-tattoo" part of town; the employees dress accordingly. Another is in Midtown and reflects transportational cycling. One is next to Piedmont Park and can also rent bikes, skates, etc. One is by Stone Mountain; they are nice and they are the closest to home (but the rest are close to work.) There are so many others I cannot count them all. But I have yet to find a bad one! ;)

There's always www.performancebike.com and www.nashbar.com
I have purchased thru the web many times and have always been happy. I too am far away from a bike shop. If they don't want to build one close to you, buy thru the web!!

There is nothing like a cool LBS full of cool bike parts, cool cyclists, and cool energy food. Nothing on earth can describe it. The smell of grease, shaved and scary legs, tight shorts, shiny bikes.....:D

What a bummer! My 'local' bike shop is 95 miles away from home (the price I pay for living in God's country!) and I can't imagine where I would be today with their support! They, and the whole crew who hang around there, are so supportive of biking, and do everything they can to promote it, like sponsoring rides, and introducing many local kids to this wonderful sport.

I too from time to time patronize the on-line stores, but whenever possible, I make the trip to Cycle Sports!

If my local bike shop closed (to me) ,it would be no great loss .

All they seem to be interested in stocking are these mass produced cheapo! imported (TIAWAN , CHINESE) mtb lookalike rubbish.
If I mention the likes of Bianci . Cannondale etc I just get a vague look and then invited to check out the latest Emelle or Saracen(sigh).

So apart from purchasing a puncture repair kit I don`t go in.

Ridealot,
BIG, BIG BUMMER!!!!
I have a couple of GREAT local shops that also do business ON LINE!!! The owner of one of them has done neutral support at TWO Olympic Trials, the other is a very cool old friend who hires EXCELLENT help and does a lot with used stuff. Give me a "holler" if you want the web addresses.
