THe little black plastic clip that holds the folding lever for the steering column snapped off when I was folding my Dahon D7 yesterday. Any suggestions for a replacement, possible using something I can get at Home depot? I could use a rubber band?

I can upload a picture if you like if you are not sure what i am talking about.

I had the screws come out of them on both of my D7's. They never broke - just replaced them with similar screws. I never had the feeling that the handle bar latch would ever open on it's own, especially is its tension is kept properly adjusted.

I think you'd feel looseness in the stem long before it would self-open.

(Just a personal opinion folks, and it should be used accordingly.)

Why not email Dahon and ask them to send you a replacement?

I also wouldn't be shocked if a Dahon dealer didn't have a few spares of these clips floating around the back of a drawer.

big black zip tie ..... just close to fit losely over the top part of the lever .. than cut end off....

now you can slip the zip tie over the closed hatch and as long as you dont ride upside down the zip tie will keep sitting there

just dont pull it all the way tight , otherwise you have to use a new ziptie everytime you want to open the latch..lol

Had the same issue with the safety latch (on day two of owning my new speed p8!). Took Thor's advice and hooked up a black zip tie. Oddly enough, this solution feels more secure than the original safety latch (although the stem is secure with or without). Thanks for the tip!
