Mountain Biking - Fork compatibility
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay so I currently have a Trek 4500 SL, I really hate the fork on it and it can't handle the riding I put it through anymore. The whole bike can't actually take it that well but with a new fork I'm thinking it will make a great improvement. Thing is, next spring I will probably be building up a new frame and don't want to buy a new fork then. I was looking at the Rock Shox Pike 426, and am curious to know if that will mess up the ride on my current bike at all.

What's the travel on the current fork, and the travel on the Pike? I just ordered a Rock Shox Revelation 426 Air U-turn. My stock fork is 100mm and the Revelation is adjustable from 100-130+/-, I don't remember exactly. Too much more travel, over a couple extra cm, and your handling will suffer. Use the search function for the forums. This gets discussed rather frequently. Good luck!
