Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
as i mentioned before in an another post, i am getting a trek 4500 2006 model...the original price is 519 and my LBS knocked it down to 419 for me since its last years model...do you guys try to get a free water bottle holder or any other free schwag? I am very loyal to this LBS...I bought my road bike from there as well and go there for all my tune ups and such...so what do you guys do?

They just knocked off about 20%, which is a good discount at this price level. Ask them if they can throw in a water bottle. If not, don't fret, don't EXPECT anything above the discount you are already getting.

I would agree. Ask, and then you'll know. :) Dofferent shops have VERY differing policies.

That is already a generous markdown. I wouldn't expect anything.

I got a good deal on my new bike, but they also threw in a nice cage and bottle and a couple tubes.

The lbs I used to go to never threw in squat. I bought two bikes there and paid every single cent for every single cage, bottle, tool etc.
I have witnessed the one I work at now throwing in all kinds of stuff. We are the coolest.

My LBS gives a 10% discount on all accessories with a new bike purchase (safety stuff and otherwise). It also offers the first tune-up for free. And the owner is always staying tuned into the best rides in the area. I payed full price for my bike, but have been treated very well with great support. +1 for my LBS
I got a discount on my bike, plus free servicing for 12 months.
They've given me a discount on everything ive bought there, they truly are the coolest shop.
Though bearing in mind, it depends who's working. Some guys are nice, concise and give a discount. Some of the guys there are *****holes, but they still give me a discount, so im not complaining.

Great point, depends who helps you. At my shop, there are a couple guys that are strictly by the book, no deals on anything without confirming with the bossman first. Then there is guys like me that do throw stuff in. Nothing wrong (in my opinion) with either.
So it really depends on the employee and the shop.

I have a '02 Trek 4500 and love it. Just upgraded the V-brakes to discs. Good price for this model -- enjoy your new ride! :)
I like to try to get my hand in the cash register while the emplyees are distracted by my requests for free stuff. That'll show 'em. Suckers.
It varies from shop to shop. If you really can't spring for the water bottle just ask. Asking is free. You might not get it but what the hell. I'd say your already getting a discount on the bike, so just suck it up and buy the bottle.
well i went and got the bike and they were nothing but nice...they spent a lot of time tweaking my bit fit and answering any questions i had. I didn't ask for anything free....I just gave a firm hand shake and said thank you.
