"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Winter Racing the Racing Forum

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today I did a TT on the computrainer, (love that machine), against a "pacer" set at a fixed wattage. At the conclusion of the race, (I beat the 200W pacer), the light bulb went off in my head. (A dim one)...
This winter I am going to race against the mighty BF Racing Forum. I will get my A** handed to me but I figure a race every two to three weeks should be fun. I know I can find everyone's threshold power somewhere on the forum so I will plug that in to the pace rider and chase away.
The short list for challengers are:
DrWJ
Nomad
Water Rockets
KP
EL Diablo
MD CATV
UT Dude
And once he gets his PT dialed in Pcad
Since my abilities are weak at best I will shoot for the over/under times. (I doubt there will be any over). The screen shot below will give you an idea of my less than mediocre capabilities and what you think the time spread on the races will be. For example racing against DRW...he would finish approximately a day before me. If you want to provide your power threshold so I have the most recent that would be helpful and if your so inclined a time spread. If you want to be added to the list by all means post your power...No level of humiliation can deter me.
I think this follows Botto's training regimen about riding with faster people. I know it can't hurt my conditioning, (except maybe my moral)...

I think my (0.95)*(20 Min Best) = 304.
I'm quite sure I couldn't do that again today. That workout ruined me for two weeks.

methinks you won't have much problem beating one of the people you've challenged.

Dr W? KP? Hell, I didn't know KP even had a meter. Weren't they both ranked top ten Cat 3's nationally at TT's at one point?
Edit: they both still are.

Sounds like fun, I'm envious of your video game/training tool.

Send me the course. I will convert it to Tacx and then actually race you. I will send my file back and you can have all the fun you want with it. Chances are the one guy on that list you can beat? It's me.

RacerX and PizzaMan weren't on the list either, so I'm in good company.
Or should that be better company?

I really thought I was looking at the Lyons to Boulder TT when I saw that course profile, until I saw the mileage, thank god, another four months until I have to ponder it again, not that I am obsessing or anything.
I wish I had ameter, then you could for sure beat the cr@p out of someone on this forum.

Your on Duke and so is Racer X...He is at least in my age group. I guess the races will have to go on through Spring...

I'll forward you the course. Chances are...I may just keep you in sight! NOT!

You'll beat me. My TT power sucks, I'm just more aero than you. Then again, I can do better power in the road position...

Because he likes being Kramer at the dojo. There's no other reason.

I'm flattered to be included. Doing some testing tomorrow so I'll send you some #s. I'm confident that I should be used early in your racing as a stepping stone to the guys that throw down real wattage #s like the Doc OD, KP, D-o-K, WR, Vino /Racer ex, PizzaMan, Nomad, Zimbo, Damocles, Convert, Truckin' etc., etc., etc., ... now, if you have a program that replicates someone racing like a knucklehead and initiating the break that initiates the winning move, then I'm your man!:o

Sorry, I had to look that one up. Funny! :p:p
Actually there are a number of reasons, but mostly for the team. I will try to go out and do well in a few 1/2/3 races so the dojo is filled with a bit more than kids (Still, the kids DO kick my arse quite a bit...maybe not quite as good as kramer? :D)

Does the computrainer allow you to put in the opponents weight and power #'s? If not, just going off the FTP in watts isn't going to tell you a whole lot unless you're all the same weight.

if recneps has a powermeter, he should probably be on here. especially if it includes weight as a factor. cslone is putting down some power also. teh cypress would be intersting to have in on this too.

I am pretty sure that it not only does power and weight, but has a recently added feature of frontal area?? Someone with a Cputrainer can verify?

Scientific it's not...Fun it is! This is not a true measurement of true power and ability. It is a fun way to get trainer time other than spinning to coach Troy. I am actually putting in the time and miles while having some "competition" at the same time.
No one likes trainer time but I can tell you I am "training" for my upcoming virtual races. For me it is an entertaining way to get through this winter season and hopefully start next season with much better fitness.
The Compu Trainer is DaBomb!

Yeah you can get very scientific with it. Racermate's, (the makers of the CT), fastest growing market is the Tri crowd. They actually have all of the favorite Iron Man courses loaded and you can adjust your weight, frontal area, wind speed and wind direction. This allows the athletes to dial in their performance and course management.
Me...I'm a plug and play guy.

well if you need another stepping stone to ramp up to the heavy hitters like racer and DrW you can use my meager numbers.

Since you like climbing so much I'll save this course for our "race" :D This ought to induce some puking!

Greg my brotha- I'm getting my LT tested sometime in January. Up until then, you'll have to use the estimates the USAC camp gave me.
FT- Using my 20mmp*.95- 364W (4.85W/Kg)

270W @ 3.84 W/kg (70.3kg). Don't race me at 270W, you'll beat me bad until you consider that I'm smaller and weigh less haha.

OK, 304 watts, 152 lbs (this was in October) = 4.4 watts/kg. Don't know about frontal area but I'm 5'9", average build.
Cheese and rice, I need to find races with hills.
