The MKS ones or Surly Tugnut will work just fine.

what exactly are chain tensioners?

I don't wanna waste another thread:

How deep in the dropout will the MKS bad boys let your axle go? I'm pretty far into the dropout as it is, and i had been thinking about dropping a link, I'd hate to have to add one.

That link will probably cause more confusion than enlightenment. In the SS/FG world, there are two types of chain tensioners. There is the type that the OP must have been referencing, which is used exclusively with track-ends. It bridges the track-end and has a washer type thing connected to a threaded bolt that "pulls" the axle backwards away from the cranks to easily set chain tension.

There's also the type that's a sprung arm with an idler wheel that takes up the slack in a chain. Like a derailleur that doesn't move left or right. You use these when you're running SS on a bike with vertical dropouts.

I had to grind down a MKS tensioner to get it on my girl's Kilo. Only took about 15 seconds though, and looks way more legit than the lame Surly one.

can you post a quick pic, and what exactly did you grind it with? thanks!

No camera available, sorry. But I just had to take down the edges right behind the washer shaped piece. It's very apparent which part needs to be ground down when you look at them. I used a grinding wheel, but it would go very quickly with a file as well.

If you like Nascar, you'll love the Surly ones.

Does not compute. The Surly has a built-in bottle opener. Bud Light is twist-off.

I just got this one in the mail yesterday. Went on without any filing down. Installed in just a couple of minutes.

All chain tensioners are ugly, unnecessary and a waste of money IMO.

Yes. And Ben's bikes is making a killing on them.

The Kilo has track ends, right? If so, they're not needed. Go without, and you'll shave seconds off of your time.

Not surprising seeing how a hipster and their $ are soon parted by purchasing bling that they are told they need to have by the internets.

I have a Redline on that I had on my old race bmx bike for ages, and it's super sweet.
